First off, I’m a tool guy. Big believer in paying for what you get. I have no problem buying nice tools.
Most of the Park Tool items I own are bike-specific, and therefore don’t get much use (GXP BB wrench, chain pin tool, etc). So I have no sense of how good their general tools are (wrenches, etc).
I need a new set of long throw hex wrenches (p-handle) and was planning on head to Sears to pick up a set of Craftsman or Klein, but I notices Park makes a set as well.
Anyone have commentary on the quality or worth of Park stuff? Thx.
For general use tools - i.e., NON-bike specific - I wouldn’t pay for Park. Like for hex wrenches, I’d much rather pay for SK or Snap-On. Wiha also makes really nice stuff, IME. In the overall scheme of things, I don’t think Park’s tools are particularly noteworthy. For bike specific stuff? They are great. But if it’s not something like a cone-wrench, chain-tool, etc., I’d look elsewhere.
I agree with Rapp and would add in addition that even for the bike specific stuff, there are some REALLY great options from Pedro’s. I prefer Pedro’s cable cutters, third hand tool, pedal wrench, and t-handled hex wrenches over Park’s offerings at the moment. They also make a really cool chain-whip type tool that I haven’t purchased…yet.
