Are eggs healthy?

Mainly its just a simple rule - eat things that humans have eaten for 1000’s of years and exercise and don’t smoke and don’t have horrendous genetics and you’ll be better off than listening to most of the nutrition experts/cardiologists/doctors/magazines/books…

I know it sounds kinda lame but I think its true (and simple).

Take a good thing - an egg - eat a couple = good for you. Whole eggs have lots of good things in them - proteins/fats/cholesterol. Eat whole eggs and your good cholesterol goes up (about 1 per egg/week) and your bad cholesterol stays the same. The yolk has most of the good things in it - why throw it out? What are you scared of?

Now throw out the yolk and eat 4 egg whites instead of 2 eggs. Are you getting a good balance of amino acids? You just changed what are ancestors did = generally bad. Will it kill you? No - but I’d bet its better to eat the whole egg. I bet you are doing more harm than good by eating only the egg white. Just doesn’t make sense.

Now take those egg whites and powder them - add in artificial flavoring and coloring = egg beaters. Advertised as “better for you” - but powdering proteins limits their bioavailability to be used by the body as building blocks. You’ve taken a good thing (a simple egg) and made it unhealthy. Yes I think they could kill you.

A clear example - take a perfectly good oil that is fine for your health - bubble hydrogen through it to make it a partially hydrogenated oil (PHO) and what do you have? Trans-fat. Billed over the years (?1970-1995) as a much better alternative to the tried and true butter. Just now is everyone finally saying that trans-fats are way, way worse for your health than butter ever was. It took 35 years! Initially it was margarine is better for your health then butter and margarine are equally bad - now butter is finally back on top. PHO’s will likely be banned soon and they should be. Ask any expert (or 99% of them) in 1980 about PHO’s and they’d tell you to eat margarine not butter and they were all wrong.

Also you can kill mice by feeding them lots of egg whites…its a famous experiment. But I think it has to be raw egg whites - I think the Avidin decreases a B-vitamin. Don’t think it really applies to humans much - but I wouldn’t eat a ton of raw egg whites. I think if you feed them raw whole eggs - the mice do fine…
