yes or no? scientific reasons are more than welcome. for the sake of argument, let’s say 5 eggs per week
Sure they are healthy. An egg is a good source of protien and they have backed of the cholesterol scare of years back. I think you can eat 5 a week no problem. If you fear the fat then dump the yolk since all the protien is in the white and the fat in the yolk. Most people probably run a higher risk from how they cook the egg or what they eat with eggs.
Rat’s favorite breakfast is the “Egg Sandwich Surprise”:
Two Vans whole wheat waffles, a scrambled egg (just not so scrambled) and a slice of swiss cheese.
I have no idea what the “surprise” is.
God, I hope so. I eat 3 scrambled egg whites virtually every day w/ my breakfast.
Hey great question. Glad you asked it.
I eat 5-7 eggs a day. I can’t fathom throwing out the yolk. Am I loving eggs a little too much?
“let’s say 5 eggs per week”…
I’ve eaten 4-5 dozen a week for about 2 years now. No yolks, just scrambled whites with fruit on the side. Whites are nearly pure protien, about 26 grams for a large one. They are a little high in sodium content though, so if that is a problem you may want to limit intake.
Now, 4-5 dozen a week at Waffle House may put a hurt’n on you!
4-5 dozen a week??!?!?
Is that your only source of protein? I’d have serious protein overload if I did that. I think probably that alone is excessive protein. I’m no nutritionist, but that sounds a bit excessive.
Only the whites are good for you. The yokes have been known to contain tiny robots that will give you brain infections from their indigestible robot proteins.
Yes, pretty much the main source. Maybe some lean meat here and there, but not much. I started with it training for my first IM. Went from 183 lbs and 16% bf down to 158 and about 7.5 % bf. It worked well for me, and is very easy to make.

facts:
The white is 87% water and 10% protein.
The yolk consists of 50% water, 16% protein and 32% fat.
It has always amazed me that people would eat only the whites of an egg? As if the egg yolk fat is going to make them fat. Two runny eggs in between two slices of toast for lunch… mmmmmm good.

Eggs contain the highest quality protein you can buy. Egg protein has just the right mix of essential amino acids needed by humans to build tissues. In addition, eggs have thirteen essential vitamins and minerals
Eggs contain the highest quality food protein known. It is second only to mother’s milk for human nutrition.
Egg yolk is the major source of the egg’s vitamins and minerals.
A large egg contains only 75 calories and 5 grams of fat.
Egg yolks are one of the few foods that naturally contain Vitamin D.
Eggs have no vitamin C because the chick can produce it from food it eats.
eggs are a terrific source of protein and nutrients. they got a bad rap years ago–but they are an excellent source, and athletes need them.
I eat one whole egg + 3 whites + cut up vegetables + one ounce of cheese for breakfast alot of days out of the week. good stuff.
I know guys that eat 12 egg whites a day. they are strong and lean men. for some of these guys egg whites is the sole protein source…good stuff.
This claims only about 6g protein for a large egg. bummer, that’s less that I thought. great website though.
Some of your numbers are a bit deceiving. There is actually *more *protein in the white than in the yolk. There is also no fat and no cholesterol in the white. Only ONE yolk contains 215g or 71% of the daily recommended value for cholesterol(take that for what it’s worth).
Also, if you care about that sort of thing(I don’t) there are more than three times the amount of calories in the yolk.
Yes, there are more vitamins and minerals in the yolk.

Uh, nooooooo. A monster egg would still have maybe 10g of protein. Not 26g!
On the downside, egg protein is rather difficult to digest, and it changes when cooked. There’s a membrane of sorts surrounding it called something like glycocalix. Supposedly some of the digestive enzymes (like papain) help break it down. Not sure. Test it – power down a dozen uncooked whites as see how well you do. Some do fine, others are gas machines for 24 hours…

Can I get a nipple with mine?
Your correct. I was looking at a 1 cup serving.
Do you just throw away 4-5 doz. yokes a week?
you really don’t buy into that false hype about eating egg yolks will raise your cholesterol do you? Back in my gym days we would eat at the min a dozen eggs a day for months and months at a time and low and behold my cholesterol went down 10 points in those months. It is really rather minimal compared to the amount that your body makes each day to run your system.
I’d go with a definite yes. Probably one of the healthiest things you can eat - why? Because its been around longer than just about any other food. The longer foods been around (not that piece of food but you know what I mean) - the safer it is. Have any doubts? Look at things like margarine vs. butter - partially hydrogenated oils - Vioxx…
No offense - but people who eat only egg whites are doing more harm than good. Eggbeaters will kill you.
Eggs improve your cholesterol.
There is more misinformation out there with regards to nutrition than almost anything I can think of.
