just saw Gladiator and will leave it to house reviewer, but – holy cow.
this and the trailers make me think bigass big screen movies might actually have a future.

We just saw it last night. I decided the best way to look at is that movie took place in a parallel universe so I could ignore all the “oh come one” moments.
oh yeah, it was The Empire Goes Woke, but the cinematic vision was great, and Paul Mezcal reminded me of Mel Gibson before all the unpleasantness.
I was thinking more sharks in the coliseum, all the bad guys being super effeminate, riding battle rhinos, …
I can ignore the butchering of history, but some of it got silly. And if they thought Caracalla was bad, they should have seen the guy that came right after Macrinus in real life.
IIRC there really was a sea battle staged in the Colosseum, but sharks . . . how would you even transport a shark before waterproof containers? I’d like to think the battle rhino was true.
When I first saw a trailer, I thought BS they didn’t flood the Colosseum. So I googled it and sure as shit they really did. I agree that the sharks probably didn’t happen.
I’m OK with that, it’s fiction not a documentary. That’s a very common theme with movies set in historical periods. People pick them apart for historical inaccuracies. I choose to suspend disbelief.
Gladiator was the 1st movie I ever watched on my home DVD player in I think 2000. Looking forward to seeing Gladiator 2 in the cinema this weekend.
@Kid
You could so together some skins seal it with potch and voila
I get a real kick out of how prickly Ridley Scott gets about all of that:
“When I have issues with historians, I ask: ‘Excuse me, mate, were you there? No? Well, shut the fuck up then.’”
D’Girls did Barbenheimer last year - I skipped Barbie
D’Kid’s doing Glicked - D’Wife & I will skip *Gladiator 2"
Honestly, in respect to Gladiator, I was NOT entertained
Except …
I’m also going to see it on the big screen. I read a good review that said you have to see it in the theater.
i saw it and it does require a slight suspension of belief. I knew they flooded the collisiuem but think the sharks were a stretch. They used to be able get fresh water to the top of the colliseum on event days
