So i decided to give Aquasphere goggles a try becuase I have a hard time sighting with regular swim googles. Basically when swim goggles sit in my eye sockets, it feels like they squint my eyes and make it difficult to see. Regardless of how silly they look, the design of the Aquaspheres seem like they would resolve my issues, so I ran out and bought a pair of Seal XP and a pair of Kaimans to give them a shot.
I tried the Kaimans and at first they seemed pretty good. My vision was a little bit better and they seemed pretty comfortable. However after about 7-8 laps in the pool, they began to leak. I made several attempts to adjust them and get a tight seal, but could never get them to stop leaking.
So I moved onto the Seal XP. When I put them on and swam my first lap i was immediately hooked. I could see perfectly and they were extremely comfortable on my face. That is until they started leaking on my second lap…
So my question for you Aquasphere users is, is there some sort of trick to getting these things to seal right? I would really like to get these things to work for me, but not at the risk of them filling up with water in a race. Advice appreciated.
i’ve made my way through at least 10 pairs of kaimans, also bought the new kayennes this season.
never had a problem & find them very comfortable. the have a huge cushy gasket so i have no idea how you could have sealing problems.
I have the Seal and immediately began tightening them when they started leaking, also. I’ll have to try to loosen them. My other problem is that they fog up instantly; like I can’t see out of them hardly at all by like 2 laps in. Anyone got a good fix for that?
actually had a swimming store tell me once the way to try on goggles is without the strap on your head.
if you can get a good seal w/o strap, they fit your face well. tight strap only negates that fit.
i thought it was solid advice.
Agreed on the fitting - especially with the Aquasphere products. They should all seal by themselves and then the strap just keeps the googles in place. With that said, my first pair of Kaimans lasted for months before I had any issues. The second pair no so much luck. My current pair has been in use fairly consistently since last July and are still going strong - no issues with fogging beyond control, leakage, tearing, etc.
i, monty, my wife, all swim or did swim in kayennes (different goggle, same company). great visibility, no leak, very comfy. i’ll be writing up a review of this and another goggle within a couple of weeks.
Kaimans are my race goggles, but they did leak a little until I figured out a trick for my face. They have such a big seal that they overlap a little bit of eyebrow; when I put them on, I lift my eyebrows, wide-eyed. No leaks anymore.
I switched from Tyr to Aquasphere Kayenne goggles, and I absolutely love 'em! Sometimes I can’t get a good seal, but it’s usually from not putting the strap on right, so I just pull them all the way off and try again.
Great visibility, VERY comfortable, no leaks(when sealed correctly).
Another multi time Kaiman user here (lost track of just how many).
I’ve found that I’ve gotta wet my face and the goggles first before putting them on.
As opposed to puttign them on dry and then trying to swim. Seem to seal better when wetted first.
This may be swimmer 101 to all the fishies out there but it took me a few tries to figure this out.
Are you wearing a swim cap? If you wear the goggles over the cap, you need to make sure that the front of the cap sits over the front of the goggle. The goggle needs to seal on your face, not on the cap.
I’ve been on a near 2 year quest to find goggles that don’t either leak on me or give me a massive headacke / racoon eyes due to the pressure. During these adventures I went from some classic Speedo’s to SealXP, thought they were amazing at first, and have since never worn them due leaking. I then tried the Kaiman’s and also was impressed at first, but experienced leaking and or severe fogging during racing and training. I was just about to try the Kayenne when on a whim I picked up a pair of swedes for $4 from my swim coach.
I haven’t gotten the opportunity to test them in open water yet, but assuming there is not some sort of horrible flaw I am not yet aware of, I’m sticking with the Swedes for the long haul.
