Aquaman Wetsuits, any good?

I have to buy another wet suit for my upcoming race. I need a full suit/superfull this time. I have heard good things about the Aquaman Wetsuit. Does anyone out there have any feedback on the Metal Cell, Bionik or Pulsar 2000? Do any of these compare well with any Desoto wetsuit or QR wetsuit?

We sell all three and I think Aquaman suits are excellent. In general, the fit seems a triffle less “athletic” than the QR which means it may fit the average person’s build better. The other thing is that Aquaman wetuits (based on our experience) seem more durable than any other brand.

In general, they are among my favorites.

Tom thanks for the feedback. I am curious, do you know how it compares to the Desoto T1 and Tres? Also, can you provide directions from 9 mile and woodward to your shop?

I won’t even look at sub 65 degree water unless my Bionik is in hand. I cannot compare to the others…didn’t find the need. Plus the US Distributor, Emmanuel Millet, is a member and sponsor of our local tri club. He is RD of the highly regarded Three Rivers Triathlon (Michigan). He knows his stuff and is always available to help with fitting/sizing suggestions. Can’t say enough about the product and the promoter.

I have an Aquaman Bionik and a DeSoto T1. I like them both and haven’t decided which is best. I think they both fit me great, which makes it difficult to pick one over the other. The formed arms and legs of Aquaman are really nice. They use some special super flexible rubber on the arms and at the bottom of the zipper that seems to make a difference. The reverse pull zipper takes some getting used to. Getting the wetsuit zipped up is harder, getting it zipped off is way easier.

That being said, the T1 is equally nice and its unique design makes up for the the less technological features vs Aquaman. I don’t have any trouble getting the top off. My only complaint is the that the legs have almost too much rubber in them. Very buoyant, a bit warm sometimes. Customer service is top notch though. I pulled a thread on my bibs and had it fixed and shipped back to me very promptly at no charge.

I like my Bionik but I have only had a few to compare it to.

Compared to QR the legs seem to fit better cuz they are bigger while the body seems roomier too. The QR looks like it would fit skinny people better. I saw the new QR yesterday and it looks like the rubber on and around the arms is very, very flexible!!!

Compared to Ironman they seem to fit the same but the rubber is more flexible on the Bionik.

I would try as many on as possible to get the best fit.

Good Luck

Hey K, I have a T1 which I think is excellent. Cheryl has an Aquaman which she likes. All of the current wetsuits work really well. Like bikes, it’s the fit that is the most important, and the biggest differentiator between suits. The T1, being 2 piece might be easier to find a fit if you are top or bottom heavy.

To get to Tom’s shop: Take 696 to Southfield (M-39), go south to Michigan Ave, go west to Mason (at the gas station), turn right, the shop is on your right.

I think the new QR suits look like the costume for the tinman from wizard of oz. But that’s just my opinion: http://www.rooworld.com/wetsuits/superfull.aspx?g=mn

13 different sizes and either neon green/black or red/black color design.

Good luck!

My wife got an Aquaman (inexpensive one, but full-length arms/legs) from Bikesport last week. We swam together for an hour at Kensington on Sunday (coooold) and she reports no problems, totally happy with the suit. She also tried on the T1 but the bibjohn shoulder straps were apparently “incompatible” with her breasts… your mileage may differ!

I like my ProMotion just fine, but it is heavy as hell, and somewhat stiff-legged compared to her Aquaman!

I just got a T1 last Friday and swam in it this morning for the first time. Other than the fact that I have to learn how to efficiently get the top off (I looked like a dork on the pool deck struggling with it this morning) it is an amazing suit. There is no constriction at all through the chest and I was very very fast compared to my non-wetsuit times of late (ie. I swam a 400m 24 seconds faster than I have been able to go all year and felt pretty relaxed doing it). I would recommend anyone looking for a new suit give one a try.
