Just a quick question for those using Apple TV and Zwift (getting Apple TV for Xmas). Biggest complaint I’ve heard is the remote is difficult to use. Has anyone tried:
I use my apple TV for Zwift but have only really used the remote to start and stop the rides. Seems easy enough for me. Is there some use of the remote that I’m missing out on?
The Apple TV remote the biggest POS ever designed!! It must have been a result of a bet…
This is true!
I personally don’t mind the remote, but my girlfriend always says that its difficult to use.
My quick answer is to use your iPhone instead of the remote. It can do pretty much everything but change the volume (haven’t figured that one out yet).

There has been quite a few occasions where I have nearly thrown the remote-early morning Zwift and having the stupid remote scroll over workouts from top to bottom, accidently change FTP in workouts, not expand subgroups etc…so infuriating…

The biggest gripe I have with the apple remote is that the ‘touch’ area can be finicky and not always work with swiping, especially with sweaty fingers. That new Function remote looks like a pretty cheap alternative.

Yes, using the Apple remote for Zwift is a pain in the arse but I suspect this it’s not Apple‘s fault because it works with all of their apps fine. I think this is a Zwift coding problem
No need for the remote the ATV comes with. It isn’t the easiest to use on the game and it takes up a BLE channel.
1.) Use the remote app on your iPhone or iPad to control the ATV.
2.) Use the companion app on your iPhone or iPad to control the game items.

Android?
Android?
Whats that?
Sounds like not being an option although the atv remote works sh…y with Zwift.

This. After getting ATV to run zwift and seeing how annoying the remote is, I researched, there are very long forum threads on zwifts website about this issue. Them saying they’d look into it, work on it, etc etc. The problem isn’t the remote. It’s zwift.
I find the remote can do everything you need, as long as you are very, very patient. Lol. It’s so annoying though
use AppleTV remote to open zwift. Then use Zwift companion

My advise would be to give the remote a try and if you find it unusable go with the phone as your remote. I had a bit of a hard time getting use to the apple tv remote but after a few days I have zero issues navigating zwift with the remote.
We bought one of the Function remotes for my in-laws last week. Works great, and aside from the lack of home button, they’re really happy with it. I tested it with Zwift and found it much easier than the Apple remote.
On a related topic, I have an Apple TV 4k coming for Christmas.
I’d like to use it for zwift, but I currently have 3 Sensors. (HRM, Trainer & Cadence)
I know at one point @dcrainmaker said that there was a 2 sensor limit for apple TV.
What I can’t find anymore is if this is still true or if it was fixed with the apple tv 4k? Anyone here know?
On a further side note, I’d say that the Apple TV is best/cheapest way to get rolling with Zwift.
I don’t love the remote but like others have said you can use the iPhone as both a remote and for the companion app.
But for $30 that remote seems like it might be worth it.

Highly unlikely this will work. I’ve paired a third party remote with Apple TV and it worked fine in other apps but not in Zwift, and others reported the same experience. So a Zwift coding problem, not an Apple TV problem. This was about a year ago so maybe they’ve fixed it, but I’d be surprised.
Some others have made some good workflow suggestions to minimize your use of the remote.
still an issue, hardware issue not a software issue, use your iPhone if you have one instead of the Apple TV remote and you’ll have 3 open BLE Chanels. Or get a CABLE ANT/BLE bridge.
