Apartment bike storage on the cheap - GF is loosing it

My girlfriend is getting close to killing me after I brought home my Cervelo Dual from my storage locker. (Just moved, only one outdoor ride on it before the snow started flying after I bought it :frowning:

Has anybody constructed a storage hanger that would allow me to store my bike vertically without drilling any holes into the wall? I’m thinking of some kind of vertical post with T-nuts on the end that I can screw posts into, so I can pressure fit it between the floor and ceiling. I’ve seen the same kind of thing that has two horizontal hangers, but we just don’t have that kind of space.

Thanks for any help/wisdom. I know this one is out there.

Nick

give up, the relationship won’t last.

just kidding. I live in an apartment too with 3 bikes that I store in the spare bedroom. I took a 2x6 that I screwed onto the wall (studs) then attached some lag hooks to that. It does put holes in the wall, but only 4 very small ones that I can spackel over when I move out.

if you’re going for something more complicated that uses tension to hold the bikes up, I image when you add up cost of materials and time involved, it would be cheaper just to buy a premade one.

My last apartment (by myself) I just screwed the hanger right to the wall. Left quite a dent, but after a little bit of plaster and sanding, you couldn’t even tell… This logic is not working with her. (she’s a great girl, but she’s a little nutso about this kind of thing.)

I found a nice spot beside the couch and the kitchen counter. She rolled her eyes and said… fine, but NO MORE STUFF!

Bummer about the weather. I’ve logged less than 130 miles on my new bike since late November.

There are tons of racks like this. http://www.nashbar.com/profile_moreimages.cfm?category=118&subcategory=1132&sku=17981&brand=

Or toothpaste will work if you’re in a pinch.

Buy one of those front wheel hanger thingies (that allow the bike to hang vertically, but straight out from the wall), screw it to a 2X4 which is approximately 1 inch lower than your ceiling height, put some sort of pad over the top end of the 2x4, wedge it up against the ceiling and down against the floor. Should lie flush to the wall and be plenty secure.

no screws, no mess.

Make sure it’s wedged tight though!!!

I have this one with two extra hangers. Holds 4 bikes in a compact space and doesn’t need a wall to lean against.

Thanks for the suggestions. If we stay in this shoebox (400 square feet!!) I think it’s going to be a 2x4 and some wedges.

Cheers
