Anyone using the Zipp Vuka Alumina BTA mount?

Just picked up the Zipp VUKA Alumina BTA Mount with Quickview from Amazon ($12 vs ~$50-60 from online bike shops… why?).

A few of the reviews mention it snapping apart going over bumps. Admittedly it seems to be a bit thin/delicate. Can anyone speak to this? Anyone using this in races? Would love to hear how it holds up. FWIW I run a Garmin Edge 1040, which is on the chunkier side for a head unit, too.

I haven’t, however a mate has used one for 8+ years, and never had any issues. Used it on all types of road surfaces, and has held up well.

it’s cheaper on Amazon, most likely because you just bought a counterfeit…

We also had many trademark issues where these direct-from-Asia brands were selling some $40 plastic pump from China as a ‘SLICA PISTA’ and similar things. We even had some instances where people were selling pumps using our product images and descriptions, but the product being delivered was just some random junk. We tried to engage Amazon but they wouldn’t even talk to us because we weren’t doing business with them.

A real Zipp mount won’t break in the way the reviews mention. Buy one from a reputable seller.

Its sold from Bikewagon through amazon and goes for the same price on Bikewagon (L9) so unless its all a scam I doubt its more likely the Amazon ones are more fake.

My wife used one, mated to something xlab? Or someone made a way to mount a xlab torpedo to one. She used it 7 years?

I have been using this for the last 5 or so years. The computer mount wouldn’t work with my cockpit configuration for space, so I sawed it off with a hacksaw, filed down the edges. It is heavy but really firms up the extensions so they are rock solidl–very strong–holds the 3T Brezza II’s well. Just don’t over torque the screws you’ll crush the extensions.

What did I do for the bike computer? I got fork steerer topcap Garmin mount (replaces a regular steer tube cap). Works great & is actually better because it is further away from me & my old eyes can’t see stuff up close as well as they used to. But great BTA…I felt the most robust out there. Of course, I have a new bike now so this is really a “back up bike” now…

FYI…the Garmin extended mount on the Zipp BTA–DID crack on both of mine, which I got from a store that sells licensed Zipp products. I bought another after I gave the first away–and then the new one “cracked” as well, so sawed it off and moved the mount & reconfigured the aero extensions which no longer fit the Garmin up front after a new bike fit.

Good to know, thanks. Sounds like this aspect is a bit fragile. I actually already have an aero extension Garmin mount solution that I like, and I prefer how it positions the head unit compared to the Zipp Vuka. So I will probably stick with that and just cut off the Garmin mount arm from the Zipp, like you did, keeping only the bottle mount part.
