Anyone use the Training Bible to create a plan?

I’m currently looking to plan out my next year while utilizing Joe Friel’s “Training Bible”. I’ve got the annual plan done (600 annual hours) and have it narrowed down to weekly hours and there is a chart that has that broken down to daily hours. The book gets a little choppy after that.

I know there are hundreds of ways one can plan their week and there are examples of one week of each period but I’m kind of at a loss now with how I should plan my weeks, workout wise as well as volume and for how much for each run, bike or swim.

I’m not sure how to implement the workouts and volume into the weekly/daily plan or what approach I should take to plan the week, i.e. hard day, easy, hard. easy etc. Also, I’m using the prep, base 1-3, build 1-2, and peak. Having the weekly and daily hours down helps but putting it all together in a progression/recovery aspect is where I am stuck.

Intensity is defined in the workouts that are in the book so that is not a problem.

Your questions are pretty broad- it sounds like you’re a bit overwhelmed with the info in TTB. I had to re-read several sections before I was ready to plan. Some basics:

-Friel recommends allocating your swim/ride/run time roughly into the same proportions of your goal race

-Develop a set of excel sheets (you may be able to find these on the net) based on his suggested format and start blocking off time. You can plan a whole season if you want, but be prepared to edit it as you move along. Alternatively, you can subscribe to ultrafit.com and they provide a weekly template.

-take special note of breakthrough workouts- these are the hard ones you will probably need a recovery/easy day after

-you don’t mention your tri experience: if you’ve been at this for a few years you’ll have several workouts that fit well with your life- start your plan with these
