Anyone buy a set of these on eBay? I was thinking of getting a set for road races and poor weather racing.
Like these?
They work OK, good price, pretty light, older aero technology.
Cool. On eBay right? About $500 or so.
No braking issues I’m assuming?
Thanks for sharing!
I bought them a few years ago for something like $360 shipped. (These are the 50mm 650C version)
They came with brake pads that worked really well, I was up and down the hills in Portsmouth Ohio for 3 days to test out the braking and it was fine. Note that it was dry when I was riding them. Those brake pads wore out pretty quickly, I mean like 2000 miles and they were done.
I replaced them with some Zipp Tangente Platinum Pro Evo Brake Pad. I haven’t ridden them as much since then but when I did the braking was just as good.
The channel in the middle of the rim is very narrow and normal rim tape (Velox) didn’t work as well as a thin strip of Stan’s rim tape to cover the spoke holes.
Edit: this should bump the post for the Monday crowd where you’ll get many more answers.
I bought the 80mm aluminum brake track wheelset directly from their site at the start of the year and they have been great! They were about $400 shipped and came in with brake pads, rim tape, and extra bladed spokes. I spent another $100 to add stans rim tape, latex tubes, and GP4000SII tires. So for $500 total they look great, are fast, handle well, and make the cool sound that comes with deep rims! My buddy had the full carbon version and they also came with carbon specific brake pads, but he told me they kind of sucked so you might want to upgrade those if you want better stopping power.
My only issue was that they didn’t start making the wheels until a week after I ordered them and then it took another three weeks to get to my house… But if your off-season has already started and don’t mind waiting a while then I’d say they were a good buy!
Awesome. Thanks for the info. I’m looking for the exact set 50 and 650c.
Thanks for the info. I’ll probably pick up a set too.
