Anyone use a wheelcover without removing the cassette?

Just curious - Anybody use a wheelcover without removing the cassette?

To be clear, I have no problems removing the cassette - I’ve done it enough that it’s error-free and pretty fast.

But I do wonder - I use the electrical tape to the rim rather than the fasteners to secure the wheelcover (works great for having ZERO noise from the cover - even one fastener rattles a tiny little bit on bumps, I’ve found), so if the hole for the hub side was a big larger, I one should be able to tape that side on too without removing the cassette?

How would you get the cover over the larger cassettes? I haven’t installed mine in over two years but I don’t recall the hole being that large.

I personally don’t, but recall this post of someone who did: http://forum.slowtwitch.com/...ost=4841082#p4841082
.

I do, sort of. If you have a PowerTap hub, or one of the new Zipp hubs, the whole hub body will just pull right off the axel. So grab the cassette, pop it off. Install wheel cover, and then pop it back on. Otherwise it’s the chain whip. Also, I hated using electrical tape on my cover; installation seemed to take much longer, and it was prone to peeling off in the Carolina humidity.

If you’re thinking about cutting a big hole in the DS plastic… not too sure how that would affect aerodynamics. Probably not for the better.
