I was thinking of picking one up to carry a few extra items (spare bottle, sandwiches, etc) for longer rides, or when I have to ride to the LBS to pick up a few small things and don’t want to carry a full-fledged backpack or messenger bag. Anyone have experience using these outside of a feed zone?
Some aren’t well made so be careful of what you get. You may even be able to get a couple free if you ask around at lbs. Reps sometimes give them boxes of them and they end up gathering dust.
In the stage races I have done the musette bags are great, but not always. People drop them, the bags swinging around when someone isn’t rummaging through them. I would recommend just mounting extra cages or a bigger saddle bag on
your bike for the uses you explained. Riding more than a few miles with
one is not fun.
