I recently started taking Primidone to treat Essential Tremors. The first couple of weeks I was only taking 25mg (half pill) and forgot to take it close to half the days. This was leading up to a big relay race i was doing and didn’t want to mess with things much. Now the race is over and I started taking what the doctor ordered, 50mg per day and I haven’t forgotten it much. My running since then has sucked, feels like I can’t get any air and have had to cut the runs short.
One of the listed possible side affects is “shortness of breath” but my only shortness of breath is while exercising. Anyone else sucessfully taking Primadone and not having problems? I have a dr visit in 2 weeks when I’ll be discussing this with him, and I think I’m going to go back off it and see if things improve. I’d hate to quit taking it cause it’s working for what it’s supposed to do. But I’d also hate to give up exercising.
justgeorge - I am curious as to how this has turned out for you. I have e.t. as well (pretty bad somedays) and it wreaks havoc on my bike descending. I’ve haven’t opted in for any medicines b/c the usual course of treatment is beta blockers and IIRC those and exercise don’t go together.
Are you still taking the primidone?
Thanks
Yep still on it. It works wonders, almost immediate (2 days) improvement. Initially I had some problems feeling groggy in the morning but that has gone away. Also my dreams became more vivid and wild (but I’ve always had that problem) and I’m getting used to that as well.
I’m taking 50mg but on days when I’m really tired I can tell that 50mg isn’t enough but I don’t want to up it.
I can also say that I haven’t been able to bike or run but that’s more due to working manual labor at 50 years old and after mowing lawns or digging holes all day I got nothing left.
Thanks for the reply, it’s good to know that it has efficacy. Hope you start running and biking again!
