Anyone riding the Bamboo bike?

.

i saw one last saturday in NYC. too cool!

I got this comment from Jim Younk.

An interesting bike note regarding Ken Runyan, who is a local legend here. He is now 62, and when he was 50 he had a heart attack and collapsed while running. He had open heart surgery and was in a coma for 3 days, but has come back strong, and won his AG at wildflower for 4 of the past 5 years, I believe. He had a custom Ti Davidson, then a few years back he got a Calfee carbon, and became the local Calfee rep/dealer. He got one of those Calfee bamboo bikes last year, more as a curiousity for his bike shop. But, he also got a power meter, and discovered that he is faster, more comfortable, and able to generate more watts on the bamboo bike. So he started racing on the bamboo, and won his AG at Vineman, and is going to Kona on a bamboo bike! Get those slowtwitch folks to discuss weight and aerodynamics over that one!

My husband (cdnbiker on St) put in his order about 2 weeks ago!

He’s getting the frame, fork and water cages from Calfee and then building it up himself.

Once it’s here etc, I’m sure there will be some pics.

So, what did he see to take the jump?

Dave

I have always liked it since the first time I saw it. I wanted the cherry bamboo but it is not holding up so I went for the black. With the cherry wood cages. I have the bars and stem already.

I will be showing pics of this when it gets here.

I’ll definately want to have a look at this bike. Will be very interested in your impressions.

BTW, we swung by your shop yesterday after the tri but you were closed. Were you doing the tri?

Cdnbiker is a Volunteer godsend for me.

Helped with morning set up.

He was the Swim Course official.

Then goes out and makes sure all is well on then bike course.

Then checks to ensure all is going well on the run course.

And helps out with tear down/clean up.

And listens to me during the months leading up to the Tri. He’s super. And luckily, he’s mine

Oh, we are also closed on Sundays so we can get out and ride.

Sorry to have missed you and Mrs. Cerveloguy. Hope she enjoyed the race. Were you at the Awards? As I was one of the presenters.

"Were you at the Awards? As I was one of the presenters. "

I won my AG in the sprint. My wife got second in AG in the Oly and Lightspeed Smith, who rode up with us got second in AG in the Du. Thought that might have been you who handed out the awards, but didn’t say anything?

I was the one in the white ball cap w/ the awards etc.

The awards ceremony is usually a blur for me, with so many people coming up for awards/prizes. I wish I could talk with everyone about their race but that would take HOURS!

Congrats to all of you on your wins.

Tamara

If I remember right, it was actually a teenager that handed me the award. There were a couple of other people there also.

I thought you were probably either the awards announcer with the longish brunette hair or the other gal with the shorter redish/blondish curlyish hair?

I’ve never seen one in person but if I had a ton of cash I may consider one. Quite an interesting design and use of materials. I wager it is not unlike some composites. I supoose you could argue bamboo itself is a cellular composite of sorts.

Oooh, your comment made me feel great!

The awards announcer is Christine McKinty -co-owner of Somersault

The other gal w/ red-blonde curlyish hair is Tara, Registration

I was the “teenager”. White ball cap, blue race crew shirt, handing people their swag/medals.

I haven’t been a teenager in 16 years. Evidently I look young.

BTW, if you were at the store, my bike was in the window. Black guru w/ Pink/silver flames.

I saw one at my LBS last week and it really was an interesting looking bike. If I had a ton of extra money just waiting to be spent, I would consider purchasing one just for the “what’s that?” factor when people see it. Based on what the owner of the store told me they are actual great bikes to ride.
