I’ve got some Easton Attack bars. About 7 months old and only done about 500 miles or less. The rivets however that attach the left arm rest to the base bar have come looseso that the arm rest wobbles.
I can’t see any way I can fix this myself. Anyone else have any experience of this.?
Uhm I’ve got the same bars which I really love. I’ve got a lot of miles on them & haven’t had that problem. Got them before IMH 2004. Appears that one would need a special “easton ?” driver to tighten the rivet. I’d try to give the company a call. I have e-mailed them Easton in the past & it takes a while to get a response.
I have the Easton Aeroforce bars - same problem as you - the screws used to adjust the position of the pads would spin in the housing. Had to drill them out. Seems to be a design issue.
Email doesn’t work. You have to call their support number - several times if it goes to vmail as their mailbox is always full - to get a response, but once I got a live human they did send replacement pads.
Number is here: www.veltecsports.com
I snapped my Easton EC90 carbon road bars last week while climbing a steep hill and torquing heavily on the bars. Scared the bejesus out of me. I’m big and strong, but come on, there’s no way I put the kind of stresses on equipment that road racers do, and a component as critical as handlebars should be designed to handle any stresses that Magnus Backstedt could dole out * 150%. Just thankful it happened at 4mph up a 20% grade and not at 55mph down a 14% one. I’m boycotting Easton.
“why don’t we all just boycott carbon bars and stems?”
Carbon bars and stems are two boutique items that make very little sense when you really think about it. I have the Kestrel EMS Pro carbon bar which is kevlar reinforced so I trust it. But I’ll keep my aluminium Ritchey WCS stem instead of a carbon one.
I am having the same problem with my Easton Attack bars (although it is the right armrest in my case). Mine are about 2 1/2 years old. My LBS believes they should be covered by the warranty (Easton claims a lifetime warranty for carbon bars), but unfortunately warranty replacement is not an option at the moment with IM Wis around the corner.
In case you happen to see this post, I’m curious if you were able to come up with a short-term, non-warranty-voiding fix … also curious to hear about any experience pursuing warranty replacement. My LBS said that, with the Bell/Easton merger underway, any warranty replacement would likely take longer than usual, whatever that amounts to.
