I’ve never had polarized sunglasses before. Used to ride and run in a pair of Adidas glasses. Then had some Oakley Flak Jackets and now most recently some Jawbones that I love. Casual glasses are a pair of Oakley Hijinx in an amber lens and have had those for a couple years.
Recently got a pair of Oakley Antix with a polarized grey-ish color lens. I like the sunglasses a lot, but my eyes seem really sensitive after wearing them. Eyes are almost a little bloodshot after having them on for a few hours and feel uncomfortable, sort of like I was swimming in a chlorine pool without goggles.
Anyone else ever have an issue with sensitivity to polarized lenses?

I will check with my sister (she’s an ophthalmologist). I know that if lenses are incorrectly polarized they can actually INCREASE the intensity of light coming into your eyes. However, given that I learned this at the Oakley factory, I cannot imagine that this is what is happening with your lesnes. But keep in mind that polarized lenses are actually redirecting the light, which I can see as being stressful to he eyes. But I’ll ask.
Thanks Jordan. As you said, I can’t imagine it’s a quality issue being that they are Oakley lenses. I just wonder if some people have a sensitivity to these things.
I have very light colored eyes (light blue/green) if that makes a difference, I have been told those with light colored eyes need to be more protective with regards to sun exposure and the eyes (not sure if that’s true or an old wive’s tale).
I’ve had similar issues, with an Oakley pair I tried. Tried polarized once and they caused blurry vision for me when wearing them - like when you wear a set of prescription glasses that are not meant for you. Gave me a headache. Ended up returning them. Not for my eyes.
I love my polarized Oakleys(they are prescription). Are they the actual Oakley lenses (have the O in the corner)? I’ve worn glasses all my life, and I always tell people that these are the best lenses I’ve ever had.

No eye sensitivity, but occasional problems viewing LCD screens when wearing them—including certain bike computers.

tell me if I am wwrong, but…
I remember from physics a couple years ago that polarizing a lens is nohting more than putting something like 10,000 tiny vertical/horizontal scratches in a lens.
What is does is block out just the vertical or horizontal light waves from passing through.
And I know demonstration that was cool is that if you cross 2 polarized lenses at 90 degrees, nothing passes through.
I too have trouble viewing some screens when wearing them- including my Polar watch. I just can’t see what’s on the top line (where I usually put speed), which is really annoying. Lots of $$ for sunglasses, lots for the Polar setup, and they aren’t really compatible

That’s because LCDs also use polarization in order to display. So when the angle is right (or wrong, as the case may be), you can’t see anything.
Sort of, but not really. The “scratches” are structured to redirect the light, hence the glare reduction. So basically, the lens has a structure which blocks light that is perpendicular to the lens - aka “glare.” Polarized filters block waves that travel perpendicular to the filter.
My wife has the same problem. I get along just fine, but I can’t read my bike computer while wearing them.
I have polarized driving glasses, and I can’t see my LCD radio display with them, or see out my side window unless I tilt my head. Polarized lenses were great 20 years ago but with modern technology they have issues.
Living on a lake, I love polarized lenses. I have never had any headache/pain issues of note, and I also wear contacts, so I’m probably more susceptible to issues.
I’ve used cheaper polarized lenses (Smith, Quiksilver), and expensive ones (Oakley, Maui Jim) & have not had issues.
The only issue I have is I just bought some Rudy Projects & they are not polarized!
Thanks for the replies, glad to know I am not the only one with issues. I don’t have dizziness, my eyes just get kind of a raw, irritated feeling. As I said, the best description I can make is like I went swimming in a chlorine pool without goggles.
I’ll be interested to hear what Jordan has to say after talking to her sister since she will have a medical opinion.
A pair of limited edition Oakleys may be for sale in the classifieds…damn, they were a cool present from my fiance.
