Seriously, anyone make a good one? For a road bike. I’m doing a little ride pimping, and just wondering if there were any advantages over, say, an Elite that I painted to match my frame.
I purchased a pair of these last year and really like them. Very strong and sturdy. Hold bottles really well. I’ve been pleased with them.
If you can wait a few more days, you can visit www.fujibikes.com and see the new Fuji Carbon Lite Race Cage.
Tested not to eject the bottles on the bike as well as behind the seat!
Any local Fuji store can order them for you.
I have a couple of the Arundel Dave-O carbon cages and like them quite a bit. They hold bottles very snug but it’s still easy to get the bottle out when you need to.

Had no probs with my USE ones…take a look on www.use1.com
.
and who makes that bad boy?
check out the Aerus cages. Might be a bit hit or miss in terms of colour, but they hold the bottles very well & don’t break.
The Bontrager carbon bottle cage is pretty nice…
I like my profile design karbon kages. They come in 3 color accents for coordinating. They hold very securely and the weave looks very nice. Pricematched at performance for 25 or 30 each plus some other coupons, so they were relatively cheap.
Advantages of carbon bottle cages…LOL.
I can see one advantage, your wallet will be lighter.
Carbon cages, from what i’ve observed at our weekly road races, are good at one thing - ejecting bottles when one rides over a large enough bump (ie - the railroad tracks we cross where probably 50% of the time the guys with carbon cages have their bottles go flying).
I have 2 zipp bottle cages on my road bike. Retail around $50. Never lost a bottle using these and I ride rough roads often.
O
I am using these on my new Hydrotail from Beaker concepts.

These weigh in at 22 grams each and I have yet to launch any bottle. Plus the Hydrotail only weighs in at 50 grams without hardware so it is a very light set-up.
They are available in Canada at Mountain Equipment Coop. I think they are $35.00 Can but I think they will only ship in Canada.
I’m going to be one of those annoying people who ignore your exact question and answer anyway:
I bought a cervelo SLC and built it up with record. I looked at a fair number of carbon cages and just didn’t find anything that seemed reasonable - all $$$ and for what?
I bought white/red specialized cages - they are plastic - weigh 38 grams - come in a bunch of colors - and cost like $12. If you don’t like them - put them on a beater bike - give them away or recycle them in some way. I’ve only had them for a few days but they hold bottles super well - maybe too well as its a bit hard to pull them out…plus when you buy stuff at specialized.com - it comes in a few days - great service - shipping is 1 set price so best if you buy a few things (I like their 23/25c road tires for training - big and comfy…bar tape is also nice - bottles are the best.).

I have Tacx Tao cages on all my bikes and I don’t think you can do better for the money, $15 or so and they are light and hold bottles well. And they are sexy.

Of course there is also a Tacx Tao Carbon cage if you need carbon. It is 10 grams less. Not sure how much it will lighten your wallet though.

I love my Tao’s. Never have any issues with them and they are reasonably priced.
Profile has a very nice lite carbon cage called Karbon Lite.

Will they hold a bottle on a behind the seat xlab?
JohnA was asking for a “road bike” cage and that is why I recommended that Profile Karbon Lite one. I use that Karbon Lite one on my Ghisallo and have the enclosed Profile plastic ones for behind the seat on my tri bike.
