Anyone know what an echogenic liver lesion is?

I recently had a abdominal ultrasound and the report says that I have an echogenic lesion on my liver.
The ultrasound was for something else and I am healthy otherwise. Is this one of those things that would only be found out by having the ultrasound?
Quick check with Dr. Google says it is not something to worry about. Would appreciate it if anyone has any relevant info.

Thanks!

Chris

echogenic means it is picked up on an ultrasound. beyond that, you can’t infer more information without further tests

You have seen The Alien ?

That is an echogenic liver lesion.

It is something in the liver that has a different density than the surrounding tissue. A CT or MRI would be necessary to offer any further insight. If you have a ct, a 3 phase ct would offer the most information. Some lesions are isodense on the ct and are essentially invisible to the radiologist. The 3 phase allows these regions to be visualized.

It would be worth while to track this one down.

Thanks for the info, appreciate it.

An echogenic lesion in the liver is usually a hemangioma, but could be other things. Based on what it looked like the radiologist either suggested additional imaging or he didn’t. A CT scan will usually give a definative answer, but may be overkill, especially if you are young and healthy.
