It used to be you could see your rise to glory (or implosion of shame) through the rankings at each split. Now they only do end of swim, bike, and run.
Any data peeps out there know a better way?

dont they show “race time” for various splits. it’s a pain in the ass, but you can check those to see how far ahead/behind someone is at various times.
Hmmm, I’ve been watching and following IM races for quite awhile now but I don’t recall them ever doing real time rankings as folks passed over intermediate timing mats. I think that’s what you’re asking. I’ve always had to manually figure it out via race time people crossed the various mats.
Kinda like the Enhanced Race Results I believer Craig Harris helped with?
I think it was part of the beta race tracker they had a couple years ago. I remember it, but it disappeared after a season I think.
I think it used to be that if you looked at the tracking and filtered to a particular age group, you could tell the relative order by the order athletes were displayed. It didn’t update your official ranking until the end of each leg though…
You’re right. If you looked on the leaderboard it used to sort at each split, but now the only way I can do it is to switch back and force between competitors and see what their individual race times are as they hit the splits. I can tell if somebody is gaining on my athlete of interest by extrapolating from their paces for each split.
It is a total PITA.
You can get this information by clicking on the + on Sportstats.
On mobile site too?
Yes on mobile but you have to turn your phone sideways to see more data.
I’ve seen a lot of people use the “Ironwatch” app. This is one of my favorite screenshots from last season.

The app however isn’t free. Basically the same info from Sports stats.
Cool thanks. Is Iron Man Texas 2016 on the web yet?
is sportsstats real time? i.e. during a race would that info be available to a spectator w a phone?

The app screen shot doesn’t show AG or field position at every split point. Does it provide this detail if drilling down per leg or split? This is a very handy feature in the Sportstats data.
The past few times I have checked the Sportstats website for real time information, the race (IMCdA & IMMT) was not on the website live. The results, with intermediate splits and placings, have been posted after the fact though. Is this information available in real time through the Sportstats website?
On race day we are not allowed to post on Sportstats.ca, we can only post results the day after.
However we did provide recommendation for the current tracker for realtime leaderboard based on last timing split, this should be available for all filters.

Is this live on the Ironman.com site now?
Thanks for the reply. The Ironman live tracking site lists in order of place at end of swim and then end of bike. It does not appear to update based on place at intermediate timing mats within the bike and run. It also does not list place at those intermediate splits (timing mats) like your website. It would be awesome to see that information pushed through.
About 6 years ago when I did Eagleman, after the race they sent you this PDF report that detailed where you were at T1, how many people you passed there (or passed you), how many people you passed on the bike, how many people you passed in T2 (or passed you) , etc. It had these colored graphs/bar charts. Something. It was really professional looking and gave you your entire race in a glance. Wish they still did tat.
Not yet, its in the works I hear…
