Anyone ever wear a tight bike jersey for tri?

I was contemplating putting it on after swim before jumping on the bike… Anyone ever run in a jersey with short, close-to-skin fit sleeves? I’ve seen folks wear a jersey on the bike, then presumably have a tri top underneath for the run (or change tops) – but I’m wondering what the comfort would be like just to leave it on.

I have worn bike jerseys for running for years. No issue

I used one for a few races but tended to overheat. Might have been that particular jersey but I just never went and tried it again.

Yesterday I did a 40K bike ride and a 10K run with a bike jersey and had no problems. The only thing you would not want to do is swim with an exposed bike jersey as the pockets would slow you down big time. Tim

Seen the Castelli T1?

I use to wear one for they entire race. Figured it would be too hard to put on after I was wet so I just wore it under my wetsuit. It was a 3/4 zip so I could keep fairly cool on the run.

My last IM i wore a bike jersey for the whole race. No problems.

Yes, full zip jersey. I change into it in T1. The full zip is WAY easier to get on after the swim. Then , on the bike you can use the zipper to vent as you’d like. And, on the run, you can unzip as much as you’d like. On hot sticky days, I find that the short sleeves protect my arms from chaffing.

Thanks for the input, guys. Yes, the Castelli stuff is purdy. I’ve got a louis garneau corsa top that I was thinking I’d give a go.

I have an absolutely ancient cycling jersey with no sleeves and one pocket, I no longer ride with it since my “system” for riding needs more pockets. However I have often raced 20ks in it since I like the pocket for nutrition for longer run races.

for me first year of trio’s 4/5 sprints came out of the water and put bike jersey on…fine to run in usually had one with a 3/4 or full zipper and would unzip when it was hot.

I’ve done races in a short-sleeved cycling skinsuit. Personally, I’ve found jerseys to be too loose/not stretchy enough, and the high armholes weren’t that comfortable for running.

As with anything, try it out in training before using it in a race.

Sure, all the time.

Short sleeves, full zipper, WINDFRONT.

I am chilly willy and will underperform if I am not staying warm at the beginning of the bike.

I always leave it in T2 though, as it only takes me 5 secs to remove.

I do almost all of my duathlons with a bike jersey top. There are no issues.

If this is something that you will putting on in T1 it must be a full-zip. Trying to pull something on over your head while wet from the swim can take a very long time.

Another garment, that no one seems to make is a slightly heavier fabric, slightly thermal, tight fitting, long sleeve, full zip top that you can put on quickly in T1, wear on the bike and then remove in T2 quickly. This would be perfect for early morning, cooler weather, triathlons.

Wouldn’t that just be a full zip full sleeve cycling jersey? Most companies make those. My Garneau one is quite nice.

Yes, they do, but most don’t fit as tightly as I am thinking. Think long sleeve, skin-suit tight.

I do in 50% of my long course races. I like the extra sun protection and since I don’t care about it being the most aero athlete in the race I just go with a regular bike jersey. I put it on post swim and like Fleck posted its easier if you go with a full zip. Also, I like it being a little loose on the run, like my running shirts.

Check this DeSoto top, it’s aero and full zip.

The Desoto short sleeve tri jersey is great. That would be my go to outfit if the PI Octane didn’t exist.

+1 on the DeSoto Riviera Tri Top. Extra sun protection but tri top tightness. I used it at IMFL last year and loved it.
