I read a review of beam bikes which also included the poor man’s version–a thudbuster suspension seat post. As long as you have at least 4-5 inches between the seat rails and the top of the seat tube, the claim is you can stick this thing in there and get a lot of the benefit of a beam with low cost and without changing your whole setup.
I have heard nothing but praise for them in the mountain bike world. They do make a lighter version for road, which may work well as a substitute for a beam bike. One thing I don’t know is the amount of set-back in the post, which could greatly affect your seat tube angle.
I have used one on my hard tail mountain bike for about a year and it is awsome. You’ll realize how much pressure your spine takes. It is heavy but my back thanks me at the end of hard rides. I can’t vouch for a road model though.
