Anyone ever use Spinergy Wheels?

Hey I was wondering if anyone here has ever used spinergy wheels. I havent heard much about them at all and I can’t seem to find any information or reviews. Thanks alot

Ridden both the RevX and the SpoxR1…never had trouble with either…I’m nearly 200lbs too.

Here’s a good place for reviews…

I’ve set up a friend on a pair of spox for both her mtn bike and tri bike. No issues although one of the hubs had a bit of flashing we had to file down (think it got dinged in handling) but that was solved real quick. Nice wheels and a very nice ride with the PBO spokes. The PBO spokes are pretty big so probably not that aero though. You can find some great deals on their carbon wheels though.

I’ve owned a pair of those for over 7 years. They’re bullet proof and very light. I love them. I think Spinergy’s stop producing them because wheels/spokes were cutting people in peloton crashes…Go figure!! But, they’re great for training and triathlon.

yeah i checked that. They only had one review and it was a bad one… Im asking because there is a pair for sale on here that would fit in my budget. ($350) and they are carbon tubulars. It seems like a great buy!

Yes, I used Spinergy a few years ago, I liked them. They are local.

If they are the bladed ones you will find people that love them and people that think they are death traps. Supposedly very fast wheels. Look for evidence of cracking where the spokes (blades) connect to the rim. Thats where a lot of problems occurred.

raced tubular rev-xs for a few years and really liked them. felt stiff, light, and fast. one thing to watch for is that in tough sidewinds, they pick up air like a spinnaker - i had a friend nearly get dragged into a guardrail when he caught a sidewind in an exposed section of a fast descent. so i sometimes would use the rev-x on the back and a regular wire-spoke wheel on the front for breezy races. of course, they also look and sound pretty cool - eventually used them for some training, too, and they held up beautifully. should be able to find some for pretty cheap, these days - but as the others have said, inspect carefully before riding.

I have a pair of Stealth PBO that I bought “used” (they were backup wheels from National team member) - I’ve raced on them for 2 years, including 2 IMs and this year they were my exclusive wheels (except for the trainer) for training.

I really like them. Of course, I’ve never tried any other carbon aero wheels, but hey… they work for me!

The Stealths PBO’s are pretty nice wheels. The FCT and the FCC are Corima rims so the quality of the rim is fantastic, and combined with the absorbing quality of the PBO spokes the wheels are really comfortable.

You can get better for the same money on ebay, $350 is a lot for the RevX if that is what you are looking at.

Look for some used Hed Jets.

$350 a pair? so me the link! well it says a Spinergy Xaero, but Im not sure if thats right because it looks different than the other ones…

I bought the Stealth Carbon PBO. First race I loved them, Second race rear wheel started making a loud noise and you could hear me coming my weight is 185. Struggled with CS @ Spinergy to fix the problem even under warranty. They finally did, and I sent them back only to have the problem continue on and off again. Since then I have sold them purchased another set X-treme Blades and found out that the Spinergy’s really aren’t that great compared to my new wheels. You get what you pay for, and it is a shame some companies customer service sucks.

Im just under 150, so I dont think any wheels are going to be a problem, I hope. I just I can hope for more people to respond to this because I cant find any reviews. Thanks for the help everyone!

I have a set of stealth pbo’s. I love them. They ride really nice and are holding up really well. I even train on them a lot. The only thing is what someone else mentioned that the spokes are pretty big. I am sure that hurts the aeroness (is that a word?). I plan on putting a rear wheel cover sometime in the future to help with that.

Good wheels, and the spokes come in different colors to match your ride, if that is important to you.

what are these? http://forum.slowtwitch.com/gforum.cgi?post=1618821;search_string=spinergy;#1618821 When I type in spinergy Xaero different wheels show up then the ones he posted a pic of.

They are what the seller claims they are - Spinergy Xaero Carbons with PBO spokes - I think they may be a 2002 model. They are comparable to the current Stealth model with PBO spokes (but not the same). I have a set of Xaero Lites in 650c that I use for training and they are the best training wheels that I’ve ever ridden. The PBO spokes really seem to dampen any “road noise”, although they aren’t as aero as bladed or elliptical spokes. I believe the hubs on my wheels are the same as the ones on the wheels that you’re looking at. I know that others had problems with some Spinergy rear hubs from the same time period, but mine have been fine. The problem was usually an early onset one and it sounds like the wheels being sold have some use, so they should be fine. $350 seems like a very fair price for a set in good shape.

Have the spinergy xaero wheels from an old cannondale tri bike. The front seemed fine the back was a problem from the first week I had it.The back hub made some awful grinding noises & I am only 145 lbs.I contacted spinergy & was greeted with some of the worst customer service that I have ever experienced.I would steer clear of em & go with hed or zipp.By the way the wheels are still hanging in my basement,as I sold the bike & couldnt sell it with these wheels.

I have a pair of 700C Xaero’s on my road bike. They really aren’t race wheels.

I like the RevX, I have access to a pair of 650’s. All of those wheels are getting old as they haven’t made them in 6 or 7 years now.

Are you looking for 650’s or 700’s?

Seriously, keep an eye out on Ebay, I see 650’s go all of the time at that price.
