Anyone ever try this hip fin?

From Finis. Looks like a hand paddle, but for your hip. I am thinking of ordering one but interested to hear of anyones feedback.

Do you think if I wear it on the bike it will make me more aero?

I’ve used the Hydro Hip thing before. My HS team used them frequently. I never really thought I got anything out of it though. I also remember it being hard to keep in place. I don’t think it takes a gadget like that to make your hips roll, just some good drilling and concentration until it’s second nature.

With that said, I think they’d definitely help you on the bike. If you can roll your hips far enough forward. Otherwise if you ride fast enough you might go airborne…
:o)

I recall reading about something like this. The theory was that you would scrape your hand on the fin if you did not rotate your hips properly. Better technique through annoyance. I suspect that these devices may help with coaching from someone who understands them. They may be of limited value without coaching or similar feedback.

I think my technique is fine. I have a good roll, good position in the water. I saw this and thought of possible strength training benefits in building up core muscles through added water resistance. I’m far from being fast in the water but I’m happy with my 1:20-1:25 pace per 100.

My new pet peeve is HS swim teams. I had some punk lean kid in my lane last night and I am sure that being a teen subtracts 15 seconds per 100. Really pisses me off. Especially the really skinny but FAST teen girls that leave all of the old tri guys in their wake.

Haha, I hear ya. It’s rather humbling to come back home for xmas break in the middle of the college swim season and be in fantastic shape but still get pummeled by tiny little 12 year old girls.

Also, about the Finis thing, my girlfriend says she agrees with me, that it’s a decent tool if you can get it to work, but it’s hard to keep it on (strap it tight enough so that it doesn’t move).
