Anyone ever flipped backwards while riding a wheelie?

So, I was on my road bike yesterday morning on group ride waiting for some other people to show up after we had already ridden for 30 miles or so (too bad I didn’t ride my tri bike). So while waiting I decided to screw around and ride wheelies up a hill near the parking lot. I was riding them up an incline so it was easy to ride wheelies in my easiest gear. Um yeah, after doing some good ones I got a little too confident and flipped backwards onto my tailbone and hit the back of my head pretty hard…basically I missed my brake and didn’t unclip at all. It hurt bad of course and took me a few minutes to get up. I was dizzy after it happened and got an immediate headache.

Luckily the group of riders I was with didn’t see me because when I landed I pee’d myself uncontrollably, which was freaky in itself, LOL. Not sure if that was from smacking the back of my head or hitting my tail bone. So I was lying in a pool of piss and got a concussion and not sure how bad my tailbone is, but it hurts bad right now. I didn’t get x-rays or anything on my tail bone, but it hurts pretty bad and I have an IM coming up soon, which is even more stupid as to why I was doing this. Seems as thought this takes quite a bit of time to heal.

Question, is it even worth getting my tailbone looked at? My concern is it feels hard to take a pee, but I can go and its been 24 hours now and I haven’t taken a poo yet, which isn’t like me. Its even hard to fart, which is bizarre…I have to use a little effort to push it out. I can’t even imagine taking a poo at this point because of the discomfort. Any advice besides I’m a complete dipshit.

You probably have a bruised tailbone, which takes a long time to heal. I’d definitely go to the doctor, have them decide if they want to x-ray (they will).

Good Luck

I take the most important right now is to get your head check.

agreed

sounds like you got yourself a concussion. i would suggest you get yourself checked out, your urination troubles could be neurologic bladder.

edit: yes ive done that multiple times. i grew up riding bmx and have done much worse than that. when i got my first set of clipless pedals for my mountain bike i immediately cranked the spring tension as tight as it would go thinking i wouldnt slip out then. i went out and rode around a parking lot and started to feel fine in them and did some bunny hops that went swimmingly. then i started riding a wheelie and put a bit much into it and as i tipped over i realized i couldnt unclip and fell on my ass. i wasnt injured but i couldnt get out of my pedals. i had to take my shoes off to free myself.

I hear you guys on getting my head checked out, its probably smart. I know I probably have a mild concussion, I had a helmet on otherwise I would have been in bad shape. I have no other symptoms than a headache, otherwise I would have already went to the ER. So I go and spend the money they tell me what I already know? They tell me to do what I’m already doing, get rest and take it easy for a few weeks. You’re saying I still go to play it safe?

My tail bone is really my biggest concern because usually I go pee and it flows like a race horse (my stream)…now if flows like a 90 year old man (barely flows but I can pee). I usually take a couple poops in a day and nothing yet and since I have to work to actually fart, I can’t imagine pooping. I’m having the wife get me some stool softener. Most likely I’ll get an x-ray on Monday if my symptoms don’t get better…unless I’m off base here. It is nice to hear everyone’s opinion, i appreciate it.

guess your best case scenario from all this is that you only need a new helmet

I second what others have said…although you might want to get the tailbone looked at, don’t overlook the concussion. That could be the more serious problem. And if you did suffer a concussion, which is very likely the case, you’d do well to take it very easy for awhile. Concussions aren’t anything to mess with.

those are symptoms too…
Symptoms (neurologic bladder)

Having to urinate too often in small amounts

Problems emptying all the urine from the bladder

Loss of bladder control
Problems starting to urinate or emptying all the urine from the bladder

do this: call your dr, tell him/her that you hit your head pretty hard and you immediately lost bladder control and now you are having a hard time urinating. then follow their advice.

Would you rather be able to tell us ”I told you so” or would you prefer us to say it to you?

As the kid from the simpsons would say “AHhh HA!” now that i am done making fun of you (still chuckling a bit picturing u fall." get a xray and tell the doc everything that happened. I am thinking mild concussion also.

And then what? Even if it has a hairline fracture they can’t do anything. Then your out some money.

Edit: Definitely get the head checked out.

Seems to me that the head check would have been in order BEFORE the incident.

I left my doctor a message and will figure out what is next. My insurance is expensive…I think I have a 3K deductible and I haven’t used it once this year. However, I can always make another 3K pretty easily if I’m healthy…I can’t if I really jacked myself up. If I could just go pee good and get some poo to squeeze out, I would feel better about my situation. Thanks for all the advice guys. Peace

Wow 3k health insurance deductable??? And I complain about a 15 dollar copay :0(

I have a 25$ copay but 0$ deductible. I will be losing that soon however, which is unfortunate. With that plan, ive never hesitated to go for a dr visit.

Tpyou better get them all in now then. Are you able to carry your plan over if you make payments? I am assuming ur are losing your job. I think some olans you can carry 1-2 years after.

Im leaving my current position, im not sure if I can carry it as cobra or not. im not sure if I can because its a union job. If I can keep coverage my premium would probably skyrocket. I would be temporarily losing benefits soon because a contract dispute will result in a strike in the next couple weeks. Im leaving before that happens.

If I go to urgent care, it will probably cost me that 3K right? I can’t imagine them not doing an x-ray or even possibly a CAT scan. That equals a shit ton of money.
