Dude how did you gain 25 lbs. on accident? I mean I am no stranger to slacking off a little during the holidays and packing on like 5, but what is goin on over there?!? With a gain like that you really need to sit down and examine/restructure your diet, figure out how you’re adding all those unnecessary calories.
Plan races later in the year (i just finished my season November 22) to help make you train.
Join a local gym and attend spin classes to keep you motivated. Hit the weights 2X weekly.
Seriously, that’s a lot of weight to put on…see a nutritionist about what you’re eating; 87,500 extra calories IS NOT a cookie or two…
haha! tell me what i don’t already know man. i just love to eat. plus, i can get lazy at times. if i had answers, i’d be a gazillionaire and find a cure for obesity.
poop it out.
Sample daily food diary?
I’m not knocking you, but I got pissed when I put on two pounds after GFT. I couldn’t fathom gaining twenty-five pounds!
When do you start training again?
discipline? what discipline?
I have actually lost 15 lbs. just by watching my diet this year with minimal workout due to family obligations and work which has been a very nice surprise since I normally have to work out like a demon to shed that much. However, I still have another 10 lbs to hit my goal weight and I will have to start the workouts again to hit that target.
For me the key has been a nice big simple breakfast, tons of fruit and veggies throughout the day and of course my PB&J at lunch and I have cut down my dinner portion by half. Since I start work so early in the morning cutting my dinner in half and heading to bed early does not seem to bother me too much.
I have always had a sweet tooth and Christmas has so far been very easy to manage but I will give myself a 2-3 lbs limit and I will only eat the treat after I have eaten my daily dose of veggies and fruit.
I think some weight gain is great but 25lbs. It took me 2-3 years to gain that much after doing so much training for 15 years but I can not imagine gaining that much in just a year.
Hang in there and try to just limit your intake. Maybe take a treat but cut it in half and share it with someone else that is in the same boat.

The answer is, there already is a cure for obesity.

You likely hit the nail on the head there… You probably have other stuff going on in life…
Last winter I put on 10lbs. I was away for work for 4 months and only going home every 3rd week. Work was stressful and the monthly trip home was no vacation either, having to walk on egg shells since the wife was holding down the home alone. I did minimal running and hit the gym a lot - put on 10lbs in ~5 months.
This past September I got serious about the diet and upped the volume a bit, lost 5lb so far (while lifting weights). Not in a rush, plan to lose another 5lb by march.
You’d better start getting serious, because losing 25lb is going to be a bitch. Training on a calorie reduced diet is going to suck and you will have many bonk sessions that will not do much for your confidence, better start now.
I’ll put on 5-7 lbs every CDN winter. In northern climes it’s natural to eat more because your body needs extra fat to keep warm. But to gain 25 lbs I’d actually have to work at it.
At my age I could not imagine gaining 25 pounds over the holidays, I’m afraid I’d never recover.
My goal is to “break even” and be at my ideal race weight on January 1.
i guess if you consider the entire time of late november to Jan 1 the holidays you are going to gain weight, i thought it was just thanksgiving day, 12/24. 12/25 and new years eve, a couple days longer if you have family in from out of town or something, since i’m off work on thanksgiving and 12/25 i make those big training days (big for the offseason at least), so i can eat a ton those nights and be fine, still the same weight i was at summer
You have gained 25 pounds???
25 pounds???
BWAHAHHAHHAHHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!
Dude, pull out! Step away from the all you can eat fried buffet!!!
:-))
Pictures please. Usually the before and after is larger to smaller. Show us the ‘Biggest Gainer’ winner!
Hahaha already? I usually gain some weight the weeks surrounding christmas and new years. Not this year! I’m bringing my bike home to where it is about 40 degrees warmer. Can’t wait!
I put on about 12lbs every winter and then shed it in february, march and april it helps me mentally when I build a good base if I have to shift some weight!

I gained 12 lbs. even before the holidays came about, but quickly realized I wasn’t happy with the weight gain. Like you said all that hard work and discipline. I’m now 2 lbs. away from my original weight with no real extra effort. Just watching the amount of intake while still taking it easy on my workouts. Don’t feel bad or be so hard on yourself. It should be easy enough to come back down in weight as some of it is just water retention and stored excess (imho). While this might sound strange, You really aren’t 25 lbs heavier.
