I generally like to run after swimming, but logistically it’s a lot of showering, drying off, dressing, etc.
What are some tips on making it a little more efficient, considering these are done from a gym and not at a lake/ocean.

I find it a little hard (both logistically and physically) to run after a swim. However, when I do it I just blow through the shower after the swim (rather than relax), and then take my long shower after the run.
Try running first if you can. Normally I’ll run on the treadmill (long, tempo, or intervals, it doesn’t matter), and then hit the pool almost immediately after. Its much easier compared to the other way imo. Weird, but running before makes swimming much easier than just swimming without the run before (probably all in my head though).

I basically dry off a little, put on running clothes, and go. I wear running gear that I know won’t chafe, so that even if I’m not totally dry when I get dressed, I’ll still be comfortable running.
I save the showering for post-run.

Yup. I do this, too…but I don’t do this workout very often.

I’m just the opposite; I enjoy swimming after running. I find that my swims are more productive after 30-60 min on the treadmill.

I always have to run before going into the pool due to the time… For some reason, I don’t run well after a swim. I think it’s because I kick too much when I’m swimming so my legs are drained before the run… I can have a intense run and then an intense swim on a good day… However, I have never been able to have an intense swim and a great run after…
I suggest running before getting into the pool. Sometimes if I’m strapped for time, I just put on my jammers and hop right into the pool (oops!).
One of my favorite pre-IM workouts is to do 1000m swim and run 5 miles all x3.
We have a lake with a path right by the pool that I use. Swim the distance, put on some shoes, run around the lake, repeat three times, at increased speed, and hurt in the morning.
It really serves no functional purpose in the sense of IM training outside of building endurance and being a hard workout
Like others on this thread, I usually do the run first, then swim.
When I do swim-then-run bricks, it’s usually in summer when I have an outdoor pool to use so that I can just leave my running gear on the deck, treat it like a transition area of sorts and hit the road while still wet.
All the time at the beach…
Swim/run/swim/run…etc…multiple times…(soft sand or hard sand or both)
or at the pool
400meter swim 2k run multiple times…
Standard stuff here is Oz where we have a huge Surf Lifesaving culture.Aquathons are pretty popular down here.
Awesome. Run then swim it is.
I have a couple of crazy days in the coming weeks that will make lunchtime workouts inconvenient, and I’m stubborn and don’t want to have to choose between swimming and running.
There is an indoor track where I swim, so I do an easy 2-3 mile run, and an interval workout after 2 of my swims per week
.
I’ve done run-swim just for logistics reasons on occassion. It saved changing clothes 2 extra times and it gives me the benefit of a longer continous workout session. Plus if I go for a run, come home and then leave again, the perception is that I’m gone even longer than If I leave only 1 time.
I prefer to always run on fresh legs to reduce the risk of injury unless I’m specifically doing a run-bike brick. Running doesn’t seem to fatigue me in such a way that my swim mechanics change much, although my kick does suffer a little.
I do this twice a week just to get in both workouts in the morning. I always swim first. These are my “medium” run days, so I’m usually running 6-7 miles after. I find I actually run better after a swim, vs. running right after I roll out of bed. My $.02.
Maybe it’s psychological, but I have a very inflexible left Achilles’ tendon and I’m always timid about running–even to T1–right after swimming. A ruptured Achilles is high on my list of nightmarish events. I always run first if given the option.
Haven’t yet, but it’s eminently possible with my Vasa swim trainer + treadmill in my garage. I can now do all 3 legs of the tri in my garage as a megabrick if I like! (I almost never do bricks.)
Yes I do swim and run bricks but I do the running after swimming. I love the feeling after a 30 to 60 min running.
I always watch videos that help me on proper running and swimming. You may want to watch them too.
Here’s my guide for my swimming:

i do this often since our olympic size pool has a 220m U-shaped track around/above it. i usually transition within 3 minutes and I never take a shower in between. sometimes i run in my swim suit but i find it is hard on them and have been switching into running shorts/singlet. i find that my legs are nice and loose after swimming compared to when i run cold. if its a hard run I jump back in the pool afterwards, without a shower and in my running shorts, and kick 100-200m to loosen them up again. i find that helps with the recovery.
If im indoors I like to swim and then run. But if im outdoors I like to run then swim. Just my weird personal preference…
I love this workout.
I’m usually twicec week if I can.
Tips, why shower? Dry off and throw on running gear and go. Shower after.
Most gyms allow outdoor runs with a sign out.
Or just treadmill it.
