Ok, I give up on this sleeping thing. Slept from 11-1:30 and now I’m done. Too sore and hopped up on flat Coke to sleep.
I’m considering Tylenol PM for tonight…

It took me about a week to get back to an 8 hour night after IMLP last year.
First night 1 hour, then 3 hours , then 5 for a few nights.
Great job and have a good recovery.
Good to know! I’m glad I have 2 more weeks of vacation!

Same thing happenned to me after my first IM. Finally got out of b ed at about 3 am and went to the hotel lobby to see if I could find some coffee. Lo and behold, the lobby had quite a few people walking around as stiff as me! That made me feel much better, knowing I wasn’t the only IM finisher that couldn’t sleep.
I slept like a baby on the second night post-IM.
Great job yesterday.

Jodi,
Last year a friend of mine had the same problem after her Ironman.
She didnt fall asleep until 2 A.M,and she was up at 5 A.M. the next morning.
The following night she said she took a few advil, and slept like a rock.
I find being a spectator for an Ironman to be more exhausting then actually doing the race.Me and 2 other friends of hers were spectators for her race, and we slept like babies that night.
I will be the first in line at the hotel breakfast for waffles!!!

Ok, I give up on this sleeping thing.
After an IM I never can sleep early. I often try go to bed a 10pm. But normally I cant sleep for one or two hours. Now I don’t even try to go to bed early.
I also can’t eat for some hours after an Ironman. Hunger comes back late in the evening (when I can’t sleep).

I slept like a kid every time…
It would be strange if couldn´t sleep your second night after the race. Try to stay away from coffee.
You’re kidding me, I’m out like a light after an IM. Never had an exception yet.
Congrats on a great debut time now go have a toasted PBJ and a glass of milk that will hep.
I’ve never been able to sleep afterwards, I’ll be awake until about 2AM and then wide awke again around 6 or so. The next night is usually when I’ll get a good solid 10 hours or so.
After my first IM (IMC 2004), I gave up around 6 am, after about 5 hours in bed, got up and compiled everyones’ splits that was staying in the B&B by 7 am. We told the hostess to have breakfast later that morning as all us first timers thought we would be sacked out 'til late. We were all up by 7:30, and she ended up starting breakfast a lot earlier than planned.
The day after an IM is the only day of the year I get up early unintentionally.
Fantastic performance yesterday! You are definitely a BadAss running in the last 7 miles. How in the world do you manage to do all the things you are doing???!
Like I said before, I passed out at around 11:30 on my coach’s couch after IMFL. I went back to my room and passed out hard. I was expected to sleep like 12 hours, but I just slept like the dead for 6 hours and then I woke up early in the morning.
Jodi,
Heard you had a great first IM. Congratulations!
The not sleeping thing from my experience, is common. My legs were typicaly so banged up that every time I moved in my sleep I would wake up from the pain. Also, I have to imagine that many systems within your body have been stressed to the max and really have no idea what is going on. Usually took me a few nights to get back to normal sleeping patterns.
I found the big post awards dinner parties to be helpful in this regard. 4 - 5 beers can really put me to sleep when the party started to wide down at 1 - 2 in the morning.
I’ve alway had trouble sleeping after HIM and IM. I figure its a combination of adrenaline and my metablolism still burning. I always wake up at 3-4 am starving…just find some time in the next couple of days to take a nap.
Great job in all of your training and race yesterday! Very impressive!
hotel breakfast
Your 1st Ironman and you’re treating yourself to a HOTEL breakfast? Sweetie…find a Waffle House or something sinful.
I agree - there’s a very good breakfast place in CdA as you head out on the main drag away from downtown in the direction of the run course. Can’t think of the name of it right now but the pancakes are excellent.
Given that I took in a crazy low amount of calories yesterday due to some stomache upset, I think there will be MULTIPLE breakfasts!
