Anybody have experience with Reynolds Alta wheels?

The bike I purchased in June came spec’d with a Reynolds Alta wheelset. In the first 2 months of riding I broke three spokes on the rear wheel. It was three different spokes, including two on two consecutive rides. All three broke off at the rim, not the hub and all three broke while just riding along, no potholes, large bumps or particularly rough roads. I weigh about 195 but these don’t impress me as super light wheels so they should be able to handle it. Anybody have experience good or bad with these? Thanks for any info.

Broke at the rim? Wow. That’s interesting. Might have just been a bad build - Sapim spokes are pretty good…

That’s what I’m hoping. I sent the wheel back to Reynolds, we’ll see what they say.

I’m 175. No potholes, no chipseal. The wheels had probaly 500 miles on them before the non-drive side rear spoke cut loose at the hub flange.

Did you send it back to Reynolds or just have it repaired? Was it a one time thing? I’m hoping maybe there was just a bad batch of wheels.

trying to get them fixed. Still waiting for word back (again). They (and I) would like them fixed locally rather than shipping them back to Utah.

How’d you fix the problem? I agree…probably a bad batch that got built.

How’d you fix the problem?
I had Elite send the wheel back to Reynolds a couple weeks ago, I’ll let you know what they say when I hear from them.

Feel free to PM me when you hear back. I’ll poke Reynolds tomorrow…

if memory serves me the tripoet cratered a pair of those badboys sometime back. you might want to pm him.

Thanks Bryan, I’ll contact him.

I use these on my tri bike (Alta Race aluminum clinchers on a Guru) and race on Zipp 404 tubulars. Road bike has Ksyrium SLs. I have not been that impressed with them so far, but I only have about 500 miles on them. Hubs not near as smooth as the Zipp or Mavic. Spokes/rims These wheels are hand built though, so anything could have happened.
