Any1 have experience with clicking in ear while running

Recently developed a real annnoying thing while running. A clicking sound only in my right ear that seams to match either heart rate or foot cadence.

Is it something to worry about, or one of those things that you train away??

Thanks for any input

You’ve got to stop going to the pool.

you got crickets in your ear !!!

or gators hhhhhhhuuuuummmmmmmm

dirt

If you saw my swim times you would know that I already spend as little time there as possible
.

I thought I was the only one! I dont get it much anymore, it was primarily when I wasn’t running much. I found that clearing my ears helped it, but it can be kind of difficult to get that puff of breath in the middle of a run.

One possibility? >

Palatal myoclonus is a regular, rhythmic contraction of one or both sides of the rear of the roof of the mouth, called the soft palate. These contractions may be accompanied by myoclonus in other muscles, including those in the face, tongue, throat, and diaphragm. The contractions are very rapid, occurring as often as 150 times a minute, and may persist during sleep. The condition usually appears in adults and can last indefinitely. People with palatal myoclonus usually regard it as a minor problem, although some occasionally complain of a “clicking” sound in the ear, a noise made as the muscles in the soft palate contract.

Do you wear glasses while running?

Where have you been keeping the garage door opener remote lately?

I’m with you…at first I thought it was the tips of my shoe laces clicking against each other…most runs I don’t notice it…but when I do, it drives me bonkers…my mp3 player helps…

i get clicking, and also sometimes i think i’m breathign through my ear. i dont’ like it.

Yeah I thought it was my ipod, took it off and it was still there. I don’t wear glasses though I should, I don’t own a garage door opener so that is out, I’m still contemplating foreign objects in my ear although I cleaned it out pretty good with one of those things that you use to get baby boogers out of their nose kind of like a mini turkey baster and got a bunch of wax out.

So with all that done, I dusted off the dreadmill got on and it was still there. It got better if I cranked it up to 6 min miles, but that I’m afraid will only get me injured however I do need the speed work. I called my doc I’m taking some heavy duty antibiotics and anti inflamatories he said it may be a form of tinnitus as sometimes that can happen with those meds…and then he asked me why the hell am I running anyways…

Thanks for help

On the serious side, I think a punctured ear drum could cause the symptom.

My guess is that it has to do with your eustachian tube compressing with the impact of each step and forcing the air pressure inside your ear to rise which makes the eardrum “click.” Have you had congestion from a cold or allergy lately? If so, maybe there is some “gunk” in your sinuses or eustacian tube from that. You might try some decongestants or antihistamines for a few days and see if it clears up.

Just my guess–I’m not an MD.

I initially thought that also, but there is no pain present. I’m not sure if that rules it out completely or not, but the doc didn’t seem concerned about that. I will wait and see when I’m off the meds to see if it is still present

Very interesting as I have had many problems with my sinuses, even a surgery last December to remove pollyps. I never had those these symptoms before with a sinus infection, but I have been noticing the tell tale signs of another infection beginning.

that’s very true - I know , I had one for years. Had tympanoplasty earlier this year and the click is gone.

Amazing. I thought I was the only one.

I got this too for quite a while. Thought it was my Ipod. Nope.

It eventually stopped but then I started getting a ringing in my ears. I went to an audiologist, who said i’ve got tenitus. nothing they can do. I’ve still got it. Drives me nuts, but lately it does seem to be fading a little from 20 hours per day to about 5 hours per day.

I think this is called getting old…

Zoom was there any onset or mechanism of injury, I am under the impression that a puncture to your eardrum would be painful and thus ruling that out of my online self doctoring.

I hear my heartbeat everytime in my right ear while I am running, mine sounds like compressed liquid though a tube, I guess it is kinda.

It seems to be louder when I am really sweating.

I get this, too, sometimes. I used to think it was my earrings clicking somehow b/c the sound is a little metallic. But, it happens when I don’t wear them. It has been happening to me randomly for years and always goes away, so I stopped worrying about it.
