Any trainer software w/custom resistance intervals?

I currently use Trainer Road with my Wahoo KICKR. Although the software lets me create custom interval workouts, it only allow such using ERG as opposed to Resistance. Does anyone know of any trainer software that would let me create custom interval workouts with specified resistance for the intervals?

I hope you find something! I’ve been wanting the same.

It would be awesome if TR would do that because recovery sets you have to turn the resistance way down so you dont have to use your max gear range.

when you say resistance what do you mean? when I hear resistance I hear slope mode. That means you set a slope and it sets a specific resistance and you can generate any amount of power you wish and switch gears as needed… The more the slope the higher the resistance. I am quite certain that trainer road allows that mode. in fact when in the same program you use both ERG and Slope, that is often termed mixed mode.

The problem is that TrainerRoad enables slope/resistance on their published workouts, but not in custom ones created in Workout Creator.

Zwift provides this option (Freeride), but I’m not sure it has been cleanly built into their workout editor yet.

PerfPro has the best workout builder available and provides this option. Downside is it requires running a PC.

I use Indoor Cycling Workout - you need an android tablet / phone with built in ANT+ or an OTG cable and ANT+ stick. You have to have the PRO version to make custom workouts (I think) which cost $5 bucks or so. I don’t think it is being developed anymore but I am still using it. You can create the intervals with Power (watts), Power Ramp (watts), grade(%), Grade ramp (%) , FTP(%) and FTP ramp (%).

Correct me if I’m wrong, but I think what you’re asking is if you can preset the resistance for certain intervals. For example, if you were doing big gear work, you might want the resistance at 90, then to have it drop down to 40 for the recovery intervals automatically. Or to have resistanc eset for 30-30s or other on-offs so that you would immediately feel the changes.

I would love this as well because I despise ERG mode. With my trainer (old cheap Tacx wheel on), ERG is completely ineffective- it takes forever to adjust to changes and the way it applies resistance lower my threshold reliably by ~5% (I have several instances where I can show HR and RPE dropping at higher power once turning ERG off).

Zwift lets you input a target cadence but that only helps with ERG enables, and I don’t think ERG does a good job of managing to that. Maybe on the apps for the trainers themselves, you could create intervals with certain resistance and match those timewise to a TR workout- I’ve never really looked at Wahoo, Tacx, or the other individual apps. You could put it as a feature request in the TR forum- I know some of them use resistance rather than ERG for workouts themselves, so it might catch some attention.
