Hey Everyone,
My wife and I would like to get away the weekend of December 19-21st.
We would like to drive and limit the drive to three to four hours. (from Doylestown, Pa, 45 min North of Philly)
We would love to go to a snowy place for some snow shoeing and cross country skiing.
Either a nice Inn or B&B would be nice.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to where we can go for a snowy romantic get away without flying or driving too far?
Thanks in advance ![]()

Pocono Mountains. It’s been over a decade but I think the ski resorts are Big boulder, jack frost and camelback if I remember correctly.
I spent many a winter growing up skiing at those resorts while hanging out at the grandparents.
I think there is one resort on the blue route between where you would get on the turnpike and exit but the name escapes me.
Go to Jim Thorpe in the Poconos
.
There are plenty of nice places in the Poconos and that would be a short drive for you. If you wanted to drive a little more and get out of PA, you could go up to the Berkshires in MA. Lots of great B&B’s up there and good for X-C skiing and snowshoeing.
Finger Lakes region in NY… about four hours away. Great wineries & skiing www.fingerlakes.org
Scoogie,
I to live in the Philly area but I am not sure if the Poconos will really have what you are looking for anytime soon. Not much snow there these days and it is pretty crowded. We have skied at pretty much most of the eastern areas over the past decade (I sit in smugglers notch in Vermont as I write this). I suggest looking at three different places depending on your preferences. My own reading of your post suggests that Saratoga New York would fit the bill quite well but it is about a 5 hour drive (or Gore Mountain even better 1 hour further). The second place I would look at is the Greek Peak area of New York which has the outdoors stuff you mentioned and nice cultural activities nearby at Ithaca as well (about a 3 hour drive). Finally, I would consider the Belleayre area in the Catskill Mountains as it has a very nice feel to it (about 2 1/2 hours away). The last two areas are ski areas which means there will be lodging, restaurants, and other activities (such as horse rides, restaurants, etc.) close by.
