Any "in-ear" devices that reduce wind noise while maintaining or enhancing ambient sound?

With my aging ears it has gotten to the point that it is almost impossible for me to communicate with friends while riding due to wind noise and has taken some of the joy out of cycling.

I have done good amount of searching and know there are the slipstreamz, cat-ear and windblox options that attach to your helmet straps but would rather go with something a little more “understated”. I also know there a few ear plugs that claim wind noise reduction for motor cyclists but they either block out too much ambient sound or just don’t seem to work according the reviews.

So has anyone found a suitable solution or know one coming out in the near future? It seams that with noise canceling technology and 3-D printing etc. this would be a solvable problem. I would pay a good amount for something that really worked.

Has anyone had tried something like the new Jabra Elite Sport wireless earbuds that has the option of turning on an active pass-through that allows ambient noise in with music on or off. Not sure if it would make the wind noise better or worse, I assume it will all depend on how the air flows over the ear bud.

Thanks in advance for any guidance or knowledge you may have.

the small cat ears are barely noticeable.they blend right in the helmet strap as long as you get black.

Good to know. Do they work pretty effectively?

Thanks!

the smaller version does not work as well as the bigger ones but they work OK, it does help a little. its better than nothing you will notice a difference.

Never heard of cat ear until now. They need some help with their website. In the noise reduction section they have 6 versions with barely any description of the differences between them. A comparison tool would be really nice.

Ha! I’m going to blame this on a combination of iPad use and only a couple of sips into my first cup of coffee when I posted. Thanks.

Not too much help just now, but you will see a handful of ear buds with some type of noise cancelling tech hitting the market within a year. I have seen a couple of projects on Kickstarter/Indiegogo that advertised wireless ear buds that let you control wind/background noise with a connected phone app. Can’t think of the name of one project but as I was reading it the thought of cyclists using it definitely sounded like a possibility.

Why not a new helmet? A helmet that covers the ears should help I guess? I bought a semi aero helmet, Casco SpeedAero, and thought that it might help, however it didnt. I read about other helmets could help with this though…

What a neat idea. I want to give them a try!
