Any good doctors in Long Island, NY (Knee pain)?

I am having bad pains in my knee. I don’t think it is from training since I haven’t in about a year. It really hurts when I drive.

Do you guys know of any good doctors?

Not sure where you live, but maybe Dr. Kottmeier in East Setauket? He is very good.

Phillip Schrank also in E Setauket
Orthopedic Associates of LI

Nice guy, really bright but modest, not one of those run of the mill high on themselves orthos.

He taught my Medical Imaging class at Stonybrook and I’ve referred a couple of tri friends to him (one also for a knee prob) and they liked him a lot.

If you live closer to the city you can go see Jordan Metzler at HSS, he is a triathlete himself, sports medicine doc.

Thank for the replies. Anyone else know of any doctors?

I’ve been to several in the past two years and really liked the the following two:

Dr. Jeff Sider
Mid Island Ortho
Plainview 516-935-1234
Massapequa 516-541-1064

And

Dr. Noah Finkel
Orthopedic Surgery (who doesn’t perform surgery anymore…I think he farms it out if needed)
Huntington 613-427-1500

I’ve had knee and ankle injuries which they both looked at. I used Dr. Finkel originally and used Dr. Sider as a second opinion. Both agreed on my knee (lots of PT work) and disagreed on my ankle. Finkel said surgery and Sider said lots of PT work first and only use surgery as a last resort.

Hope that helps,

Pat

I’m sure there are good doctors on Long Island but I think you best chance for success will be if you see on one of the doctors at Hospital for Special Surgery.

Dr Frank Cordasco http://www.hss.edu/...files/Cordasco-Frank has surgicaly repaired my right shoulder; torn rotator cuff, torn labrum, detached bicept tendon and both knees, left; ruptured pettella tendon and torn maniscus, and right; large flapping tear of the maniscus. The shoulder is better that it ever was and my knees are doing well as long as I respect them. I’m swimming three times a week and running on soft surfaces three times with no pain. Yesterday I ran a Hilly road 10k race and felt fine after.

Dr Cordasco’s office is the most professional doctor’s office I have ever been to. He has the respect of everyone in the hospital.

I saw another doctor at the Special Surgery Satellite in Uniondale about a back problem I was having a couple years ago and he got me straight.

Special Surgery is one of the best Orthopedic hospitals in the world. The doctors there are the experts. Your doctor on Long Island might see a problem like your once a month, at Special Surgery they see it every day.

My day job is in the med/insurance field and with the information I have…Stay away from Dr. Finkel. You can search his name on nys physician profile and see the settlements against him. I also have access to current legal
proceedings against him and the cases are very serious. Find a different doctor.

I just re-read your post and realized you didn’t ask for an ortho.
An ART chiropractor I see in Merrick (I believe he also sees patients in Massapequa) is Dr. Doug Catoggio. He has helped me with ITB and shoulder tendonitits, and I would estimate that at least 20 people on my tri team go to him for various probs. He also worked at the ART tent in Lake Placid before IMLP and treats a lot of athletes. 516 637 9090

I’ll second Sider. Haven’t yet had the need to see him, but I see lot’s of his patients who speak very highly of him.

Kotmeir is the knee guy in suffolk county…

In the end it really depends why you have knee pain though. If it is something that requires surgery or not

(Disclaimer I am a grad from the medical shool he is affiliated with but have no financial connection to him)
