Just wondering if anyone has experience with the cheap cycling shorts on Amazon. Looking to pick up a couple pairs for trainer use.
You didn’t ask, but…
Cycling sucks using cheap kit.
Buy some high quality close out not your style / ugly / slow moving bibs. Stock up when they go on sale.
You are welcome
I dunno. I’ve got a couple pair of the Przewalski bib shorts that I got for $30 on amazon. They’ve worked fine for me. The chamois is thicker than my more expensive ones, but I don’t mind the diaper for indoor sessions. No chafing or fabric breakdown.
I’ve got a pair of shorts with matching jersey and a set of bibs. I agree with the above that the chamois is thicker than ideal but I’m happy for the $40 I invested altogether.

They work fine in most cases. I have a kit from ‘Sponeed’ that works every bit as well as my Pearl Izumi branded stuff.
That said, you probably be able to wear nearly anything on a trainer if your fit is dialed in and you’re not on a hard carbon unpadded seat.
I do ALL my trainer cycling now in normal unpadded compression shorts (no chamois). I go for 2hrs on the bike no problem now, but it took a little bit of work to adjust the seat to just the right height and fore/aft position so that it all worked. Turns out in the past I was trying to adapt to a suboptimal bike position by using overpadded shorts (I even bought a pair of $$$ Assos at one point). Now I avoid the padding on the trainer and focus on fit adjustment until it works out right.
I did find that on-road outdoors, I do like the chamois to diminish the road vibrations and shock, but OP specifically mentioned trainer.
I forget which brand but I bought a pair of “cheap” Amazon underliner shorts (designed to wear under another pair of shorts if you decide to actually ride outside in these things…think super short well short of your mid-thighs). Yeah…they aren’t very good for trainer use the elastic on the legs was too loose (meaning the chamois shifted around your bottom…alot). On the same token I did the same thing with some cheapo Nashbar liners too (purchased around the same time) and they weren’t like my other Nashbar branded bibs/long pants…they had no stretch at all so the stupid thing doesn’t fit right either.
IMO you get what you pay for. Now I prefer to just use my bibs on the trainer and nicer shorts because the worn out ones don’t work so well for me. Found for me Nashbar bibs are pretty decent and not too expensive (otherwise I find Pearl Izumi stuff works well for me too…but their bibs are 2x the price of the Nashbar branded ones so I haven’t pulled the trigger on any of those yet).
I wonder why you would want to buy shorts specifically for the trainer? I use my bib shorts on the trainer that i also use for spinning and rides outdoor in summer.
My experience with bike shorts is that the more expensive brand shorts tend to be more comfortable and usually last longer. It’s important that they fit well though.
I used to have a couple cheaper ones and one more expensive and noticed that i would put the expensive one in the wash directly after a ride so i could use it again on the next ride. I hardly used the cheaper pants anymore.
I actually bought them because for MTB riding I use liner shorts instead of my regular cycling shorts/bibs (and wear a regular pair of shorts over them). I bought them to replace a couple of worn out REI branded ones I have (that were decent actually). I spend a lot of time standing while riding MTB so that is why I can live with these type of cheapo liner shorts for that purpose. The cheapo Amazon one I picked up was at the recommendation of someone else of bought them and said they were decent. The Nashbar one I was buying other stuff and also picked up the cheap liner shorts to get me over the minimum amount for free shipping.
So to conclude no my original intention was not dedicated trainer shorts but did use them for it anyways.
I have a few pairs of shorts that I use for commuting, and some liner shorts under tights in the winter for commuting again. They definitely aren’t as nice as “real” shorts, but for up to an hour, if your saddle is remotely close to a decent fit you’ll be fine. I probably got 2 years of at least biweekly wear out of a pair before they gave up the ghost.
Not sure how “cheap” they are on Amazon, but these bibs from The Black Bibs get pretty decent overall reviews. $40 for standard and $65 for the “plus” which add grippers on the legs.

A friend of mine recommended this brand called Sponeed and they are excellent!!
My other friends bought them, they are happy and I see several people wearing them when I go to bike rallies.
I’ve been using them for 3 years now, but cushion is still good and they are my go to shorts/bibs.
I have a cheap pair that i use for 60 minute or so trainer sessions. works great. that way i figure i am not wearing and washing my expensive ones near as much.
I bought these and they were $3.99:

Pretty good padding I use them without issue. Bummer they are unavailable now.
Not amazon but I bought some Pearl Izumi shorts for $10 off of their website. If you go to their clearance section you can find some good prices.
I bought 4 eBay kits for less than 20$ a piece.
I have worn the bibs for every trainer ride and a bunch of commutes for years. A bib will last me over 2 years, riding in that bib once a week… idc if it’s not Rapha, it works.
The amazon stuff i got when i thought i was being smart saving $$$… was crap.
Mind you, if you find a good fit… it is not like it will fall apart looking at it.
I love my casteli and sportful. I just get it on sale.
I have this. It’s pretty awesome. I’ve only worn it on the trainer but it’s super comfy with a ton of padding.

Thanks. Sounds like the przewalski or the sponeed are worth a try.
