Any experience with HED JET 4s or 5s?

I’m tempted to get some wheels for training that are a little deeper than my FLO 30s. I like the look of the black hed jets 4 or 5s. I already own the 6/9 set.

Just curious. I know that my bike shop has the non black version of the 5s for sale at 850, but would prefer the black.

Thx

I’ve had jet 5 black. Really liked them but not much different than 6. When I had them I just a disc to pair with the front 5 for racing.

Given the choice, I’d go 5s.

That said, I also use my hed jets for both training and racing, so a set of 5s in ADDITION would almost seem redundant other than to have a spare set JUST in case.

I’m cheap, so what I would do is have a set for my road bike, a set for my tri bike, but not an additional training set.

If I was so inclined to buy another set, the 4s would almost seem to small a difference from the flow 30s to bother, I gotta be at least 50mm or bust.

Oh and for what it’s worth, I don’t mind the look of the non blacks at all.

Nobody has ever said my bikes don’t look sexy enough with the alloy brake tracks lol.

Personally I spent the extra ~$200 for black brake track. Just knowing better braking is a comforting feeling.

The 5s often come with lower end spokes and the heavier hub, while the 4 Blacks would have the nicer aero DT spokes and the carbon front hubs. Honestly, I think the brake track on the Blacks is so much better that you would be silly buying anything else. They go a long way towards making you wonder why anyone would need disc brakes.

I don’t disagree with the bolded portion you included. I own the blacks in 6/9 and am very happy with them. I just don’t want to ride with them all the time. I’d like the 4 or 5 in black, just wondered about the 5 series as they seem to be a mybikeshop exclusive.

I’ve owned both the Jet 4s and 6s, currently have a set of the Jet 5+ Black from MBS. Love the 5s. They’re not 50mm, as you would expect, they’re 55mm. For all intents and purposes, they’re 6s for less money.

I don’t know if they still market the 5s in the non-Black version, but the early versions without the Black brake tracks were built with lesser grade hubs and spokes. The newer Jet5+ Blacks have Sapim CX Ray spokes and upgraded hubs. As has been mentioned, with that brake track, there’s no need for disc brakes. For my money, given the price, flawless tubeless compatibility and aerodynamics, the Jet 5+. Black wheels may well be the best all around option.

Thanks. Appreciate the input.
Wanna sell me your 5s?! Haha

Yeah,
I saw. Not really a great price to be honest. I’m tempted by the 5s that aren’t black track-but since they don’t have the good hub or spokes I’d rather hold off. I also was hoping for a good price for just a rear 6, but it is at $800 or so. At that price point, I’d be better off buying the disc rear.

Have a good one.
