I’m looking at two options for a bike box. The first is ordering a BikeBoxAlan directly from the UK. Has anyone else here done this from Canada? I’m curious about the magnitude of the taxes and duties I’d be hit with.
The second option is a Scicon Aerotech Evolution from ProBikeKit Canada, but it’s ProBikeKit so you just never know if or when your order will show up. If anyone has ordered from them recently I’d be interested in their experience. ProBikeKit offers free shipping anywhere in Canada, which is a serious plus. I’m in the Northwest Territories. Most online companies exclude NWT from free shipping.

I’m in the US (born in Canada though) and just ordered the Aerotech Evolution from Probikekit. It arrived in a bit over a week and was insanely priced - I got it for USD $501 with shipping. The shipping company was initially a British company, but it was transferred and delivered by FedEx in the US. Seemed very easy in terms of order and delivery to me - not sure if it would be any different to Canada.
I bought from BikeBoxAllan in 2012 and had it shipped to Toronto. I think I paid approximately $200 on taxes and duties but remember being okay with amount due to the price of the box at the time compared to others.
There are websites out there that help calculate the taxes if you search for them (here is an example that I found by typing “import taxes Canada from UK” into Google) although I do not know how accurate they are.
I bought a bikeboxalan last spring. I live in Frankford, Ontario and I think my total including all taxes and duties was around $900. It is a fantastic box for protecting your bike and easy to pack and pull through airports.
Please god don’t use PBK. They took over 3 MONTHS to deliver me one of their bike boxes. In the meantime I had a training week in Lanzarote to get to. I ended up driving to bike box Alan to purchase a cheap shop soiled second they had because PBK had let me down with delivery and I needed to get my bike to Lanzarote. I phoned PBK many times, tried to go pick the bike box I ordered from their warehouse myself, only to be told I could not pick it up myself I would be a security risk! They were an absolute nightmare from start to finish. Please avoid!
