Any advice is welcome: convert classic road cycling shoes into triathlon biking shoes

Hello. I am asking for some help in case someone has been with the same issue. I own a pair of classic road cycling shoes (shimano SH-R077). 3 velcros and the damn tongue… I was wondering if there is some way to transform them into triathlon cycling shoes to make my transition faster (the main problem is putting my feet after T1. In the past I stiched up a kind of strip at the back of the shoe to put the rubber band to keep the pedal still…but the main problem is putting my feet inside. the tongue is always a problem and sometimes the velcros get out of the buckles, …so, any advice? I am not going to buy a pair of triathlon cycling shoes, no way. I was thinking of using strong glue to stick the tongue to the upper part of the shoe and put some clamps in the strips to avoid them to run off from the buckles…

Thanks

I haven’t seen your shoe in person, but I have made other bike shoes tri friendly.

I wouldn’t use glue alone.

I sew with dental floss – much stronger than thread and a minty smell

I also cut the velcro short in conversions I have done.

3 straps seem obsessive so I would remove the middle one.

Also if you are talented/crafty you can use the middle one remove to bridge between the other 2 creating a handle. Again dental floss is your friend. That way it is a single grab off and on.

Just put the shoes on in transition. Might cost you 5-10 seconds in transition but you’ll save time on the bike cause you won’t be trying to get your feet in the shoes while riding.
