Anti-anti doping fervor

Dan,
I think you’re tone is too passive. It should read ‘Anti doping agencies fervor bigger threat than doping’. You’ve hit on the problem exactly. Consider what if some (a lot) of athletes dope and win, okay they’re cheaters, that’s bad and we should try very hard to prevent that, it’s an ongoing struggle but as Tony Soprano would say ‘waddya gonna do’ . On the other hand, what if anti-doping agencies get rid of every right to due process, that’s an order of magnitude worse. No sin justifies completely tossing out the rule of law.

Here’s a quote from the film, A Man for All Seasons. William Roper, Sir Thomas More’s son-in-law, insists that the law of England be set aside to get Thomas Cromell, More’s mortal enemy. More states that the law is sacred and it made no difference if Cromell were the Devil.

More : ‘What would you do? Cut a great road through the law to get after the Devil?’

Roper: ‘I’d cut down every law in England to do that!’

More: ‘Oh? And when the last law was down, and the Devil turned round on you – where
would you hide Roper, the laws all being flat? …This country’s planted thick with laws all
being flat? … and if you cut them down … do you really think you could stand upright
in the winds that would blow then? Yes, I’d give the Devil the benefit of law, for my own
safety’s sake’

Peter O’toole played Thomas More, so he said that stuff reeeallly good.
