Another Repulblican comes outta the closet

I couldn’t face the fact that I was gay. Really? At 40 years old!?!?! But you can run the RNC, but not deal with the fact you are gay?

I’m sorry, I just don’t get these guys. How does someone live such a lie? Is the fame, power, money worth betraying your soul?

As an Idahohoan, I can’t wait for old Larry Craig to get caught again. It’s only a matter of time before Mr. Widestance strays…

Seeing as how you are an Idahohoan, I can understand why it’s a surprise to you that some people don’t come out of the closet until later in the life. My guess is you don’t have a whole lot of exposure to anything but heterosexual lifestyles.

My brother-in-law is in his mid-30’s and we are all wondering when he will come out of the closet. I don’t think he is living a lie, I think he’s trying to find out who he really is. That can take time.

Out of curiosity, can you please establish what the appropriate age is for this to happen?

16 years, 6 months.

I think the appropriate age to come out of the closet is the age when you start working for an organization one of whose stated missions is to discriminate against gay people. Then it’s time to come out and quit.

I’m trying to recall what GOP politicians that came out gay have had their careers ruined.

Mark Foley. But I’m not sure how that’s really relevant, honestly. I think self interest and intellectual honesty would force you to quit, not anything external.

Foley was a pervert that preyed on underage pages. Homo or hetero, that ain’t right.

Ooohhh…that sounds like good reading! Can you point me to where the RNC has publicly stated that they discriminate against gays? I must have missed that one.

I won’t hold my breath waiting for you to back up your claim…

We could play that game. OR we could look at the public record of statements for the past 10 years. And the proposals for anti gay marriage amendments. And the fight against repealing DADT.

Thanks! I’m glad that is settled.

Support of an amendment to stop two people of the same sex from marrying. I’m pretty sure that is a public statement of discrimination.

Larry “Wide Stance” Craig!

.

Oh, I’m sorry - since you started “that game” I thought it meant you wanted to play. My bad for not understanding your terribly confusing messages. Don’t throw out statements that you can’t back up.

You do know that here in California the “anti-gay marriage” amendment was voted in by a majority of the people, right? Coincidentally, that same vote happened on the same day that Barack Obama won the state in the Presidential election. Care to explain how the Republicans pulled that one off?

Oh, and ask yourself this: How many people in this country self-identify as a Republican? And, look at that against support/opposition to same-sex marriage.

Fact of the matter is, a lot of people - Democrat and Republican - are against same-sex marriage and DADT. In the latter, for reasons other than just being “against gays”.

Thanks. But, I’m hoping that you realize it’s now August of 2010. Perhaps if you also went back and looked at public opinion of same-sex marriage at that time, you’d find ample reasons to understand the position.

I mean, we are talking about politicians.

bingo. i have no problem with closeted gays, or gay republicans. but i have a problem with closeted gay republicans, if they’re part of a movement that is antithetical to a cause the rhetoric of which - if they’re honest with themselves - is unsupportable. still, i can’t help but feel sympathy. it must very very hard to live such a stridently disconnected life, and i’m glad for him that he’s reconciled his dualistic existence. he certainly now enjoys a great deal of freedom he previously did not. bravo for him, even if it’s a little later in the day than it might have been.

Ok, you’re engaging in a defense of Republican politics. And that’s a totally different discussion from what we’re talking about. I understand you feel defensive about this, but please try to stay on topic.

We’re discussing Mr. Mehlman. And his work for the republican party. At the same time as the linked article. When he was head of the RNC. Supporting a policy discriminatory against gays. As a gay man. That’s what under discussion. Written in short sentences, so you don’t get side tracked.

Is it clear that he recognized his sexual orientation while head of the RNC? I have not read any statement of his that is unequivocal on that point.

Once again, anti-gay republicans can’t help but BE gay

just like pro-tax democrats can’t help cheating on their taxes!

hahah

POLITICS!

So, to be clear, anyone that is against gay marriage can be accused of having publicly stated their oppositon to “gays” or “gay marriage”? There are a lot of Democrats included in that broad brush.
