My budget is $200 for a decent GPS watch with HRM, and have narrowed down to the Garmin 410 vs Timex Global Trainer.
Based on all the reviews and updates (including dc rainmaker) seems like both watches have grealy improved from initial releases (Garmin touch screen, Timex GPS reception, …)
Just looking for some other insights before I make the purchase.
I can provide a little insight on the 410. Input is via a touch-sensitive bezel, not a touch screen like the 610. Although the bezel has its limitations, e.g. it’s problematic with gloves, I’ve only found it to be a minor inconvenience. The device has an extensive feature set that includes up to three user-configurable data fields on three screens, virtual pacing, custom interval workouts, and multiple alarms. I use two screens - one for track intervals and one for the road, and make extensive use of custom workouts and virtual pacing. Although I didn’t consider it to be a significant feature initially, I’ve gotten spoiled by the ANT+ wireless data transfer capability. I sit at the computer after a run and data is uploaded automatically to Garmin Connect.
I think it’s also worth considering post-event processing applications - these include GC and Training Center from Garmin and third party resources, e.g. Strava.
The user manual is online, you might want to take a look for other features.
I just bought a 410 for Xmas, it’s my first GPS watch and I really like it. Not sure if its because i have nothing compare it to or it’s actually pretty sweet. I like how it felt compared to the 310, and I like all the potential features. I also have running gloves with finger tips that are made for iPhones so I haven’t had any issues with the bezel.
