Annual hours elite OLY tri? 750hrs? 2006

I’m an elite age group 24yr old. Specialize in Oly distance with a 1/2IM here and there. This year i’ll hit about 700hrs. I’m planning ATP for next year. I was thinking of going to 750hrs. Even though taking into account a hip injury that occured in July that ended my season which cuased me to get my volume from cycling/swimming. I’m using trainingpeaks.com and if i do 750hrs it says my biggest week is 22hrs which would be tough to get in but i could do it.

not to be that big of a dick but your point is?

assh$%#

i cant beleive you are so rude…obviously, he is asking about what best wheels and frame he can use in races…can you read???

I only averaged 6.19 hours per week this season and did 2 sprint tris, 14 oly tris, 2 half IM’s, and one full IM. I have a life and did not burn out or get hurt!!

Why not just write a post that says.

I have a big cock, do you?

LMFAO. Remember I still own you!

I must apologize for desert dude, he’s a know idiot in this Forum. Jonnyo is a friend of his and the two of them were plotting to give you a hard time and make fun of you. I am sorry for that.

Now I have a couple of questions:

  • What the hell is an elite age grouper???

  • Is there a question somewhere in your post?

elite age grouper would be someone who wins most of the regional races they enter and places top 10 overall at national races.

Anyway, i’m was wanting some peoples input into the number of hours i had planned, good, bad idea?

From when is top ten in an age group any form of elite?

Gimme a break. I was got top 10 overall and won my age group in several races this year, but from when does that make anyone elite ? We’re either pro or age group. If we are age group, there is no difference between the guy going 1:55 in an Olympic Distance and someone going 3 hours. The bottom line is that we all do it for fun and don’t pay the bills with tris.

I hate it when people stroke their egos with placings in regional tris. These placings are totally meaningless and only dependent on who else shows up

For the record, if you are a sub 2 hour dude, then 750 hours sounds reasonable especially as this works out to an AVERAGE of 14.4 hours per week. Basically, you need to do just over 2 hours per day every day of the year on AVERAGE, a great way to build your aerobic base. Now I realize there will be many days with 5-6 hours and many days with zero hours, but when you quantify the 750 hours in terms of what your general hours per day will be, it gives you a much better guage of how “doable” that is within the contraints of your life.

Good luck…and don’t take the “elite age grouper” this too seriously

Dude top 10 overall at national events like USAT nationals. I dont compete for AG titles. I compete for OVERALL titles. Is that elite enough for you?

Congrads on your abilities. I am happy when I get at the 10% OA in a local race. (And dev, my best Oly times are around 2:20 so I am a MOP kind of guy)

Seems to me that generally, there is a relatonship between the number of hours one can train, and the results one can achieve. (Now I have read that genetics can count for about 70% of a sport, so, seems like you have the correct parents. Have you thanked them lately? )

So, it again goes back to what are you doing the races for? If one does not impact other parts of ones life, then go for it. I always try to give it the death bed speech. If what ever you spend your time in life on is what you would do if you had to do it over again, then go for it. Now, I am willing to live with what ever results I get since I only have so many hours to train, and I have no desire to get hurt from over training at my age of 48. Just do not heal as fast or as completely.

Guess the other question is based on your abilities, seems like having a coach that you can ask these questions to would be a high want.

Best of luck, glad you are not in my age group. :o)

Matt,

If all you want to do is be the bad ass in local tris, 700 hours should get you elite status in Deactur. I think thats what you were asking.

/Smart ass off

All depends on what you are trying to do.

PACAMAN, what’s Deactur? I could get my pro card but i’d rather win some stuff that get killed every race and not get a darn thing. And have to travel all over the country to the pro races
