I woke up Monday am and the left bottom side of my left foot arch was hurting a bit. I shrugged it off, laced 'em up, and went out for a run. Thankfully I only went 5m (vs. the 10 planned), since on the way back it flared up and got pretty painful. I was able to finish, but the last mile or so was uncomfortable. Never had any issues of this sort before…
Dunno what caused it (I ran 10m on Wed prior, 18m Thurs, then no running on Fri-Sun, but during the biking I did those days there was no issues with it).
I’ve been taking Aleve since Mon evening, and also iced it last nite and this am.
The bizarre thing is, it comes and goes in terms of pain. Sometimes I don’t even know anything is wrong at all, other times it gets a bit more acute.
Is it “just a bruise” of some sort? Maybe something else?
Suggestions as to what I should do? I biked Tues am, and it was fine, so I know that I can bike (and likely swim, I’ll try that later today) ok, but I am very hesitant to run on it again if it remains like this. So my long run on the sked for tomorrow is out.
If it is what does one do with it - got exactly the smae issue on my right foot. Without being too literal it feels just like I’ve slightly torn in the middle a tendon running over the arch of my foot from ball of my big toe to near side heel.
Mine is limited to the underneath area of the outside of my left arch, if that helps better describe my current malady. Not as far up as the ball of the foot, and not as far back as the heel.
And of course, it feels just fine at the moment :-p

Rroof - where are ya my man??
Right here! Yup - sounds a little like plantar fasciitis. Sensory overload info if you google that. Since yours is intermittent at the moment, take it easy. Roll your arch on a frozen water bottle or similar, be diligent with your posterior calf stretches, and skip the next long run. Also, since you are likely running pretty long/lots lately with Kona coming, make sure your shoes are in great shape - no time to skimp here.
Other etntities like an abductor hallux muscle strain, FHL tendonitis, etc. will respond quickly to some time off. PF can be a bugger if it gets bad. I like the arch taping (low dye) you can find instructions online as well. Don’t go barefoot either until you are sure this is resolved. Keep me posted!
Funny you mention being dilligent w/ the calf stretches, I had gotten out of the habit of late (I normally stretch fairly regularly) - so I’m sure that’s a contributor.
Also, I had dug my old Vitruvians out of hiding and ran in them a few times last week (and including on Mon this week when it really flared up - it was raining on Mon, and for whatever reason I have dubbed the Vits my ‘rainy day shoes’), so perhaps it’s time to can them, cuz even tho they look like they have plenty of mileage left, they are probably done. (Oh well, I’ll hafta splurge for another $30 now
My Boston Classics were new 2 weeks prior to LP, so they are still fine.
Yup - bike (stiff soled shoe won’t bend) and swim away! I tried to find the love for the Vits, but couldn’t. Nothing at all wrong with them if they work for you though and I wish my shoes cost that much (although I do get ASICS direct from them for a professional discount - amazing the markup. Kayanos only $48 direct, but $130 in my local store!)
