Announcing World's 1st Nude Duathlon/Triathlon

Announcing World’s 1st Nude Duathlon Dear Friends, This past August, my girlfriend and I went down to North Carolina to race in
the World’s First Nude Triathlon the Bare Hare Sprint at Bar-S-Ranch. http://queencitytiming.com/race_pages/bare_hare_sprint_tri.htm

Absolutely professionally conducted, well marked, challenging course,
chip timed, professional announcer, even a film crew with underwater
camera’s (that’s another story all together)…As a experienced
Ironman Triathlete …I can assure you this thing was run at the
highest level. And “over the top” FUN!

I became very good friends with the people who invented this race,
Sue and Gary Butts.

So for 2008 (June 21st) they are having another Bare Hare race right in the
Pocono Mountains at Sunnyrest Resort (www.Sunnyrest.com).

It will be a Mountain Bike Duathlon, Individual or Teams. I set up the course myself and it is every bit as good as Wissihickon. Course Maps are Available. I hope you’ll come out and support or participate in this unique event.

Butts A’Runnin Race Management is proud to be DU-ing the FIRST-EVER
Clothing-Optional (Must be
18+) Duathlon in the Pocono Mountains. This event will be
ChampionChip timed by Queen City
Timing Services of Mooresville, NC and results will be posted at
www.queencitytiming.com.

DISTANCES:
1.5 Mile Run (on paved roads)
8.5 Mile Mountain Bike (on mountain trails) Helmet required and must
use a Mountain Bike.
5K Trail Run

+++++There will also be a separate 1.5 Mile Fun Walk on paved roads.
Finishers will receive a
commemorative medal.

COURSE DESCRIPTION:
First Run: 1.5 Miles
Level: Beginner
The run will wind through the mostly paved roads of Sunny Rest
Resort, with a
challenge towards the end (Cardiac Hill) about a 100-yard up-hill run
on paved surface.
++The Fun Walk will also follow this same course and will head to the
finish line in front of Irv’s house.

Transition 1:
Will be on the open grassy area in front of Irv’s house.

Mountain Bike: 8.5 Miles
Level: Intermediate
2 loops on wide groomed (4 wheeler ATV type) paths, passing will not
be a problem.
Path surface is a mix on hard pack soil, rocks and exposed roots.
Much of the course
has long stretches of beginner friendly trails; however there will be
several challenging,
rock/exposed root climbs and descents. “You will know you’re in a
mountain bike race”!
Helmets are required for the bike (ANSI/SNELL). All climbs and
descents will be
well-marked to give you warning. There is also a few small stream
crossings and mud
puddles, they are shallow and easily pass-able, generally just a few
feet in width. A
little mud is part of the fun!
A beginner mountain biker can complete this course; they may need to
dismount on a couple of the climbs, no problem, it’s a race not an
exam. No water stops.
Course will be well-marked.

Transition 2:

Will be on the open grassy area in front of Irv’s house.

Second Run: 3.1 Miles
Level: Beginner/Intermediate
The run will be a single loop on trails with same terrain as the
mountain bike leg.
2 water stops at 1/3 points.
Course will be well-marked.
When you cross that finish line, you will have completed “Du-ing” the
first-ever clothing-optional
Duathlon presented in the world!

“DO THE DU” NATURALLY
“A unique freedom you’ll remember for a lifetime”

I like that the race directors are Sue and Gary Butts.

My buddy raced it this past year… said it was a sausage fest

I like that the race directors are Sue and Gary Butts.

What’s even better is Gary has a brother named Harry.

I used to work with a guy named Dick Pease. Seriously.

Do I really get to be the first to say, Pics or it didn’t happen.

I used to work with a guy named Dick Pease. Seriously.

I used to live in a town where a high school teacher’s name was…

Richard (Dick) B. Harder.

No joke.

I used to live in a town where a high school teacher’s name was…

Richard (Dick) B. Harder.

No joke.
He must have had a good sense of humor about it to take up such a profession. I remember Dick Pease telling a story about how he got out of being arrested for antics in college because the cops felt sorry for him having to live down such a name.

The other night I was watching old movies on TCM. The TV only showed the the first few characters of the movie title on the info display: “Love Finds Andy Hard”, I wonder if Richard was related to Andy.

It wasn’t the world’s first though.

I’m guessing he didn’t tell too many students his first name! I was in college at the time. One of my friends student taught with him…

You guy’s are funny…Really.

I guess this is what they mean by “any publicity is good publicity”.

In college (columbia, MO) there was a local used car dealership owned by Richard Head.

I would do this nudie race thing, but it’s pretty dang far away from me.

:frowning:

You fly in bro, I’ll get you a place to stay on site.

From the Sunnyrest Resort Website…

NIGHTCLUB: Our NIGHTCLUB is open on Friday and Saturday evening and Holiday nights. Doors open at 9:30 PM, and it is a BYOB club. The atmosphere in the nightclub is different than most clubs, as lingerie and/or nudity are permitted; however behavior is closely monitored. Management reserves the right to ask guests to remove attire that is considered inappropriate.”

Does anyone else find that statement rather ironic???

It’s one of those things you just have to experience, to even come close to understanding.
I can assure you one thing brother…it ain’t boring!

Do I really get to be the first to say, Pics or it didn’t happen.
my buddy did the race at the Bar-s (both the 5k and the off road tri) and they don’t allow cameras or camera phones.

Underwater camera?! I hope it’s wetsuit legal.

Remember that race car driver Dick Trickle? After they talked about the top finishers they would always mention what place Dick Trickle got just so they could say his name on the air.

Warner Bros. had a Camera crew and a actor there,
they taped the actor and anyone who would sign a waiver,
as part of a pilot program called Reel America.

The actor was from California, his name was Quinn
and you can see his finish line picture at the race web site mentioned above.

That made it even more interesting and fun…and a total trip.

My girlfriend and I swam, rode and ran the course the day before with Quinn …
and with the Cameras following us. They told Quinn that they had got enough footage
and he didn’t have to do the race. Well he wouldn’t have none of that…
it was that type of atmosphere, he completed and competed. And it was a real
achievement for him. He was a true athlete. Everyone involved had a great positive
experience, and learned some things about stereotyping…You gotta see it for yourself.

And yes they did have underwater cameras rolling for the swim. I did not see the
footage, but the race director saw it, and told me how amazing it was.
He was actually promised a copy…so we’re still waiting for that.

There used to be, may there still is, a nude running series here in Texas, the Dare to Bare races. They are held at nudist colonies around the state and you have to race at least three of the six races to qualify for the championship event. A girlfriend and I had thought of doing some of them but never seem to have gotten around to it. I think that turn out was less than expected. You were allowed to wear shoes by the way as they were cross country races.

am I the only one who finds the idea of this well painful??
I nursed 2 kids, and whilst not large the idea of all that bounce, well OUCH

and guys, really you’re going to tell me that your equipment does not hurt on the run???

and the bike??? I like my padded shorts
