An unexpected opportunity to try the Saucony Mirage

Last night, I got to try the new Saucony Mirage. This is the cousin to the Kinvara, with some support. The Saucony rep who let me try them saw that I was wearing Nike Lunarglides and suggested I might like these. I ran about three miles or so (my NEW Garmin kept dropping).
My impression:
Nice shoe, light but firm, not to cushy, not hard as a rock. I felt like I wanted to go fast. They are about an ounce heavier than the Kinvara and feel completely different (I tried on a pair to compare the feel). These shoes are very different than the Kinvara. The Mirage feels more like a “regular” shoe, it has some structure to it, and a very nice road feel. The mesh was very open and airy (not a great cold weather upper!). The pair I tried was a dark charcoal with red soles. Very trail runner looking.

Overall, a very nice shoe and worth trying. I would consider buying it. He said the price would be $100, available in February.

I’ve been a loyal Saucony Tangent runner for a while. The Tangent is now being replaced by the Mirage.

I have one more pair of fresh Tangents in the closet I hope to alternate with the Mirage as a transition and then if I like them and am having good luck with them probably transition completely to the Mirage.

I am not a huge fan of the Kinvara, cautiously optimistic about the Mirage.

In my opinion, the MIrage is completely different than the Kinvara. The rep said they are based on the same last, but the Mirage is built to feel more like a traditional shoe. The Kinvara felt like a mesh sandal on top of a running platform (I didn’t run in it, just walked around the store). The Mirage has a nice solid feel. The upper is supportative and the sole is different than the Kinvara. It felt like a running shoe, if that makes sense. It does, however, look narrow. It didn’t feel narrow while running, though.

Thanks, sounds promising.
