Yep,you are but they were all upstaged by Didier Woloszyn who did 33 in 33 days in July/August with an average time of about 12:35…MInd you the Guiness book won’t recognize his achievement because it wasn’t a “race” but just an organized event.
He then did IMMT in around 10:30 a week or so afterwards.
it would be cheaper to take up smoking, and faster to stay at home and play with a loaded revolver.

Damn! That’s one incredible Ironman!
I have two friends (from NE Illinois) who are racing the Deca. I think they are insane. But it will be fun to track them.

I know Didier and he is a great guy and inspired a lot of ordinary people to get out and ride and run with him over the month that he was doing this challenge. It was really great following him online and watching the crowds get bigger and bigger every week.

The guy was so lean after it was all over that it was scary.
Chuck Schultz and Kamil Suran are the two racers that I know through ultra running. I am looking forward to tracking them through this adventure.

I know that people here think the event is nuts and boring and the loops are insane and all that but I can tell you from my experience at the Quintuple in Mexico and from the five Doubles I have done that they are in for a treat. There is something quite special about sharing the pain of going through what they will be going through with everyone camped out together on the race course. It ends up being a very tight community event and can’t really be explained to those who have never experienced it.
The only reason I didn’t accept my invitation was the expense of the bloody thing…
On the homepage, could they not find a picture of a guy doing freestyle?? Or do you have to do all the swimming in breaststroke??
And props to Tony Reed from Chatham, Ontario (my former hometown) who is on his way to Italia for this sufferfest. The lone Canadian in the field Tony is a veteran of double and deca ironman races.
He has a bad back and ankle- I can’t imagine starting anything like this gimpy.

Didn’t he do a bunch of this on the trainer and treadmill without anyone monitoring him?
The facebook page for the triple deca has a few questions about his motivation and achievement.
Anyway, he crushed me at IMMT. Total stud.

Yeah, once he was told that his attempt would not be recognized he modified the whole thing to be more of a community event which allowed a whole bunch of “non athletes” and newbies to join him.He did some indoor iron-distance days and rode most of his outdoor stuff without a helmet. As far as I know though each day was monitored and recorded.

I don’t know about that: at 3000 Euros, or roughly 4500-5000 U.S. dollars, the cost does not sound that bad for a 15-30 day race. On a per iron race basis, assuming say $4800, that is about $160 per iron race, a relative bargain compared to WTC:) Actually though, you also have to provide food and lodging for your support crew, which would prob run another 4000 or so Euros.
Also, just for clarification, since this is a “1 x 30” rather than a “30 x 1”, this means the competitors will swim 114 km, then bike 5400 km, then run 1266 KM. Correct???
Wow, talk about your long workouts:)
