Amsterdam Accomodation

I need help.

I am going to be in Amsterdam for a week of R&R after Im Lanzarote and can’t figure out where to stay. Anyone familiar with the city have recommendations? There seems to be about 1000 hotels in the city ranging from really sketchy to five star plus. Also what area of the city is the best to stay in?

I don’t want to spend a fortune, but I do not want to share a room - my roommate days are long over. I don’t need luxury, but I would like security (for my bike and laptop) and reasonable cleanliness. Ideally if I can keep it under $100 a night that would be great.

Thanks in advance.

I’ve stayed at Hotel Fita - www.fita.nl - several times. Clean, safe and very friendly owners/staff. Its a stones throw from the Van Gogh museum and Rijksmuseum. Its also close to a grocery store - Albert Heijn and there is a great pastry shop just around the corner too. I can’t recall the tram line but there is a tram from the Centraal Station direct to the hotel.

I think he wants to stay closer to the hookers and weed.

You say that like it is a bad thing.

P.S. You for got the hash.

The hookers aren’t what they once were, the red light district is full of transvestites, scam artists and druggies. The quality has moved to private clubs.

Not sure quality is an issue here.

After Worlds last year we stayed at the Golden Tulip- very central near Dom (Dam) Square - very clean, well run and reasonable prices. Hope this helps

I stayed at a youth hostel right beside the red light district. Of course that was over 30 yrs ago.

Hey I need something to dull the IM pain.

“the red light district is full of transvestites, scam artists and druggies”

and that list does not include any of the window people… :-).

I was in Amsterdam recently, and stayed at the Radisson (http://www.radissonsas.com/cs/Satellite?pagename=RadissonSAS/integration/hotelInfo&hotelCode=amszh&language=en&backURI=/reservation/rateSearch.do&origin=Rates%20And%20Availability

It’s a nice place-- good location easy walk to metro, trains etc.

Might be higher than you want to spend–
