AMGEN Tour of California trumps NASCAR in media experience

Big day for racing around the U.S. The NASCAR series for this year starts today with the Daytona 300 and we’re into the AMGEN Tour of California.

An interesting compare and contrast:

I tred to pcik up the live feed for the NASCAR race at Daytona and couldn’t get to it. A fine fellow or gal here on Slowtwitch posted the link to the live AMGEN Tour of California feed and now I am happily listening to my buddy Frankie do the color commentary over the web.

Now, with zillions of dollars in NASCAR you’d think they’d have a sweet interactive, on-line experience. I have to say, unless I’m missing something, the media experience in U.S. bike racing has surpassed that of NASCAR.

Good for us. Let’s hope the F1 guys get it together this year on line before March 31.

The link?

Now, about the same time I posted this on one monitor, the link I was watching on the other monitor took a pooh.

come on Tom…

Daytona 500 (not 300) on FOX live

ATOC “day in review” at 8pm on Versus

get real

I might agree with you…that is, if the TOC feed was actually working. For some reason it won’t let me watch the tracker page anymore.

Why would Nascar spend their money on an on-line experience when you can watch the event live in beautiful high definition with Dolby 5.1 sound? Where is the live high definition feed from the ToC?

Man, I’m talking about watching it over the new television: The Internet.

watching 42" LCD High Def vs. my 12" powerbook monitor…hmmmmmmm thats a toughy

I hear you.

I believe that at nascar.com, with a paid subscription, you can get everything you can get from the ToC plus a whole lot more. Such as live video from every single in-car camera, live race-radio feeds (from driver to spotter to crew chief), plus lots of other bonuses.

I will say that I was quite impressed when I saw the Amgen site yesterday. A little less so when I saw that almost none of it was working. Impressed, yes. Comparable to Nascar, not even close.

Not that I know how to do it but I have friends who have hooked up their computers to their hi def tv’s. Works great but I still hear you. It won’t be too long before computers and televisions are one unit though.

I saw that but I didn’t wanna pay. Tour of California is free!

Why would they do that? The video on the internet for live feeds is such poor quality that it just makes for an even worse picture when you blow it up.

There is a saying “Garbage in garbage out”.

And just because you can does not mean you should.

That is what I do:

MacBook Air to 50" Plasma - cycling watching nirvana

You didn’t want to pay but a lot of people do. NASCAR trumps the tour online and on TV. It’s on a free network that everybody gets.
