American Zofingen 2022?

is this happening?

I have heard from Tom Ganz that **the race HAS BEEN APPROVED and is scheduled for SUNDAY, JUNE 12th. **

Registration is not live yet.

I will update here as soon as I hear that it is open to register.

My understanding is that if you were registered prior for the race(s) that got cancelled due to Covid ('20, and then '21) that your entry was deferred.
I will confirm that with Tom and report back.

**GAME ON, BEYOTCHES!!! **

Oh no.

My beer and donut diet is NOT gonna help things.

Oh sure it will!

As AmZof’s diabolical creator John McGovern used to say - *“**train heavy, race light” ***

You’ve got the first part nailed.

If the emphasis is on “heavy” and not on “train,” then sure.

One day at a time…

Well, JM certainly went big on “heavy” at times.

Dude had more chins than a Chinese phone book.

In a moment of supreme optimism, I registered for 2020 on race morning 2019. Then had mechanical and gear and finally ‘F this shit’ issues and DNF’d 2019. Me thinks I might be seeking a rematch… me vs LC, take 3.

You are SO DUE!!!

3rd time is the charm.

Ah man that’s a week before a 70.3 no way

Wuss.

Just do the CWD then.
You could probably even get away with the middle distance, since that’s roughly equivalent to a Half.

I once did a HIM, club sprint tri on Wed nite, then another HIM that weekend.
And lived to tell the tale.

So will you.

Yes, you are due!!

Sad to say, but I am done. I was so ready in 2020 at 70 but a lot has changed in the past two years. Still running and swimming but I haven’t raced anything since Long Beach Snowflake Run in 2020, I just had my second hand surgery, and I don’t even own a bicycle.

I hope the race goes off this year and I hope it goes on forever. Good luck everybody, wish that I was joining you!

Sweeney! You should at least come by, drink a beer or 2, and heckle a bit.

Sorry about the hand.
It’s always something.

Nuh, I can do it but can’t truly race both.
And doing it just to do it is not why I’m racing

*(ignore the fact that the address has 2020 at the end, it’s for the June 12, 2022 race date. *
also the main AmZof page hasn’t been updated with the new race date yet)

Here’s the email Tom Ganz sent out a few days ago:

I wish I could have sent this months ago or last summer but Covid has changed how the race is progressing. I got notice a few weeks ago from the Mohonk preserve that I can hold the race on Sunday June 12th. That is the only option this year. I have been working on sanctioning, insurance, timing and all the many parts it takes to make this race happen. I wish we all had more time but I am glad the world is getting back to racing.

for everyone that has deferred in the past please call or text me as that will be the fastest way to get this done. 845-866-2992. I will need your name, gender, age on December 31, shirt size, usat #, and which distance you plan to race. For those who have not heard I have added a trail run to the race.

for those not deferred I will send out a registration link today or tomorrow.

I want to hear on race day from everyone on the possibility of using this weekend as the new race date. It avoids the college graduation with hotels and traffic and gives more time to train.

My family looks forward to seeing all of you in June.

more details will be emailed as we go forward and I will open up 2022 at $100 and hold the price. I will also post a link for 2023 Registration at $80.00 in anticipation of a more normal world going forward.

I’m coming over to volunteer. It will help me deal with my ‘‘has been’’ status!

AWESOME!!!

It beats the hell outta “never was” - so you’ve got that going for you!

I called Tom but couldn’t leave a message and emailed but haven’t back.

Course updates!

Mountain Rest has just been fully repaved on the NP (descent) side!! It’s like buttah.

The High Falls (climbing) side was repaved a few years ago, and is still in excellent condition.

The dirt road section near the Ranger Station at the entrance is a minefield of large potholes.
BEWARE!!!

Last I saw, the bottom part of the Minne descent to Granite (after the Million Dollar View) is all chewed up. You’ll likely want to take the lane here.
(Will update if that changes before raceday)

I ran the run course Mon afternoon, and it is mostly in good shape.
The traditionally super muddy grassy sections were both more clay-like mud, not the splooshy stuff that sucks your shoes right off your feet.
Which is borderline amazing, given how wet this Spring has been to date.
The only truly wet part was just a short section before the steam crossing, where you head uphill on the first bit of singletrack.

The last singletrack descent part is pretty rutted out in the top half, until you get to the little plank bridge crossing between the trees.

I foresee some rolled ankles here, particularly off the bike when fatigued.

Get some.

Do you know if we’re still a go for June 12th? What time are we starting?
