I had 3 or 4 pairs of mizuno wave rider 12’s. Then I got at least 3 pairs of of 13’s. Now I have a pair of 14’s and I hate them. I have no idea what changed.
Any suggestions?
More information:
Neutral runner working always to be even more neutral. Wear an 8.5, I’m pretty average build (i.e. not clydesdale- I’m 5’ 9", 165lbs or something). I have sorta high to high arches and on the narrow side feet.
Can pretty much run in minimal shoes, no pronation or other problems. Used to run in bare feet a lot back in college because I liked it- without problems. Only in grass though.
I like shoes that feel like they are my feet, not on my feet. My zoot race shoes are awesome, loved my old nike XC spikeless flats, hated HATED asics kayano…ran in cumulus’s for at least 8 years before I realized they were way too wide and there were better options.

I WILL NEVER RUN IN VIBRAMS.
I went through 8 or 9 pairs of 13s. I didn’t try the 14s, I have a pair of 15s to try, but I think that they are already advertising 16s now.
If I like the 15s, I may try to pick a bunch up on sale near the end of the year. This year I picked up a bunch of DS SKY Trainers from Asics that should last me through 2012.
ok - serious response -
I’m like you, except that I stopped with the wave riders after the 11s.
Since then, shoes I’ve worn and liked:
Brooks Launch (discontinued, might still find a pair around on-line)
Brooks Ghost (wearing now, firmer than I’d like, but ok)
Asics Nimbus (more shoe than you probably want, but these things go and go, I’ll get like 550 miles out of them compared to 350-400 for the wave riders and 250 for the Launches)
Mizuno Precision - didn’t quite work out.
don’t like the pures - there’s just not enough shoe there for me.
I’m suprised to hear so many brooks suggestions. I tried on some brooks several years ago and thought they felt wide and heavy, and something about the toe curve was wierd. Reminded me of old New Balances I had years and years ago- which I hated. Can’t remember the models though.
I’m thinking I’m going to bite the bullet and go to the local running store and pay $110-120 for my shoes vs. getting them online for $60-70 this time around. Not only will it make me feel all warm and fuzzy for supporting local, I can try on a bunch of different things and see what’s best.
